It was not a permanent defibrillator they were thinking of though. Just a procedure where they stop the heart and restart with normal rhythm. They would knock me out for about a minute and do it.

Mike, if they ever decide to give you a defib, it's no big deal.
You're in the hospital just overnight (maybe 2 nights depending on the doc)
Takes about 2 weeks to get used to it (a little uncomfortable in the upper chest where it's inserted)
After that, you don't even know it's there ------- Unless it decides to give you a mule-kick to the chest

Oh ok, I think my bro-in-law had that a few times.
It's all cool, I am basically healthy it's just that this whole thing will mean a learning curve to become ambulatory again.
Even untreated, my atrial fibrillation would not cause any real trouble until later (except possibly for clotting, but I was already taking aspirin and I think that helped keep me clear). That's why it was pretty cool it was caught now.
I am glad it was something like this that forced me to the doctor (haven't been to a doctor since I was a teen, sort of developed a phobia) rather than a more serious, life threatening deal.
Also, here at rehab, I see people going through a lot more than myself (my roommate included) and defiantly I feel blessed.
