I also discovered Sting live at Durham Cathedral. He sing some old English folk songs and some of his own songs, it's very beautiful.

Also Sully Erna performs his Avalon solo album live in Boston and it's really great. Much better than Godsmack. Lisa Guyer sings with him and adds an ethereal quality to the music, very satisfying.

The video is certainly one that you will probably never forget, and thankfully. Whew.

2014 was worth it if for only my introduction to Diablo Swing Orchestra. I truly LOVE this sound.

I dig that Sail song by Awolnation (2011 release, but I just discovered it)...and Bruno Mars makes me smile.

It's called Muscle Shoals (the incredible story of a small town with a big sound) and you guys need to see it soon if not sooner. It details Rick Hall and his studio Fame in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Artists from Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, U2, Rolling Stones, everybody came to little ole Muscle Shoals to record. It's truly awesome. And on a personal note my mother went to Sheffield High School with some of those guys in the studio band.
I happened to see it and agree with you...it's great!

The best new artist I heard this year is St Vincent.

The best song of 2014 IMHO is Ariel Pink's Lipstick. If you havent heard of him before well shame on you :p he can mimick any recording style of the past and is like a modern day Zappa is in way. http://youtu.be/N_AktugiRsE

Hmm, I have three to choose from. Clutch (thanks to The Walking Dead), Junior Kimbrough (again, Walking Dead), and that Rollins Band sounds just as awesome (if not more) playing live, as the albums sound. I'm going to go with Clutch as they are brand new to me and I listed to them for months.
