    Ghent, Belgium

Was just watching a documentary on the Military Channel ......

A peace treaty was signed between the USA and Great Britian in Ghent, Belgium in 1814.

Being a Revolutionary War buff, i'm ashamed for not noticing this before

We have a Museum member from Ghent, right ?

Belgium has some amazing history especially when discussing things like military battles and such. Especially for World War II buffs, there's so much to see and read about pertaining to Belgium. I went to the war museum in Ypres and it was really outstanding.

Thank you for that interesting history lesson. Very insightful, and more personal since we have a "Gentian" ??? member. Sorry if that isn't right.

Well there's at least one brave little country that sits between France and Germany that is willing to put a fight.

Come on Mike?? You never heard of the war of 1812? Made that crazy man Andrew Jackson a hero. It also cemented us as a power in the world. When you stalemate the strongest country in the world at the time (England) other countries tend to notice. Interesting fact- The battle of New Orleans took place 2 weeks after the treaty was signed and cost the British about 2,100 deaths compared to the american toll of 17.

That's funny, ya one of the early wars not really talked about. We also had a nasty little war with the barbary pirates off the coast of Africa. The marine corp song that has "from the shores of Tripoli" actually refers to the marines storming the pirates principle port. History is soo cool, isn't it?

That last pic was taken during the "Gentse Feesten", a ten day city festival, one of the biggest in Europe I believe. This particular pic was taken at Polé Polé, a part of the festival where they build a stage over the water and have floating cocktail bars, as you can see here. The music is mostly afro carribbean stuff. A huge success each year.
The third pic with the boat is the same location, different period obviously.
