Saturday morning toons, no more

Thought this was worth mentioning. I'm beginning to believe network television as a whole is on its way out.

Thank God for my Saturday morning collection. I think there has also been no good after school network cartoon line-up for a while now. (or am I mistaken?) But we all knew this was coming. Cable, DVD, Tivo and the internet have killed Saturday morning TV. Who needs anticipation, Saturday morning review shows and blocked network TV every Saturday morning when all the viewing you could possibly want is right there within arm's reach ALL THE TIME? These poor kids will never know what it was like to wait all week for the best shows, Schoolhouse Rock, great cereal and toy ads, and for the peace that came w/ your parents sleeping in, and leaving you to your own devices every Saturday morning! Too bad.

Been dead for awhile,sad to say. Most of what was aired was either reruns or was stuff from the likes of Nick Jr.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I think only being able to see cartoons on Saturday mornings as a kid made us appreciate them more. I think the anticipation was just as much fun as seeing them. I mean, it's great that we have DVD's and 24 hour access to our favorite shows, but there was just something magical about having to wait for Saturday morning that made it so much more special.

I agree 100%. We had cartoons before and after school which was cool but nothing like saturday mornings. The energy and excitement when saturday morning finally arrived we were so excited. Same could be said for TV shows in prime time back then. Of course pro wresting at noon was the icing on the cake for me! Then it was playing with my friends outside all day until the sun went down (unless we were playing our atari at my house or a friends).
You know as time goes by year after year I really miss those days.

I was trying to explain to my kids the anticipation you'd get from seeing those comic ads, then waiting for the premiere of the new shows. They don't get it and probably never will.

And that's ok, I wouldn't take a minute of that back had I the choice. However if somebody had pitched to me as a kid that I could watch cartoons anywhere, even in the car when my parents took long boring trips, I'd have sold a body part to be there.

So, while I'm sad to see Saturday morning go, it's really hard to mourn in what is a cartoon renaissance. I have four cartoon channels right now, unlimited streaming choices and I never have the time to watch the output. I've lost track of Superhero cartoons.

^Yeah, I've tried to get that across to my kids as well, but they've never known a time when Cartoon Network, Disney and Nickelodeon weren't there for them 24/7. And of course, since those channels ARE there, prime-time can be as smutty and gory as it wants right at 8 o'clock...but that's another story entirely.

For me, the ritual of Saturday Morning Cartoons died when The Smurfs and
others of their ilk (Snorks, Wuzzles, Getalong Gang, The Littles, etc) hit town...

I was never too into the "funny" cartoons, though I thought they were all right. The ones I really enjoyed were The Super Friends, many of the Filmation series such as Batman, Tarzan, Zoro and The Lone Ranger. Spider-Man and Friends was great too. Star Trek and Emergency + 4, as well. There were a several others and that's about it.

Actually Saturday is back!!I've been watching Saturday morning cartoons on CFTV out of Leamington Ont. They show popeye, speed racer, Timba, 60's Spiderman, HR puffnstuff, they were showing battle of the planets (G-force to me), random old cartoons and the partridge family. They don't have commercials but show school house rock and new and old canadian wildlife PSA's...bell express view carries the channel
