Yeah, that's when I hit the road but I was also getting too old for cartoons.

It used to irritate me when I'd pick up a Les Daniels book and he'd trash the Superfriends or anything produced after his precious childhood. The best cartoons are when you are 7.

They don't have commercials but show school house rock and new and old canadian wildlife PSA's...bell express view carries the channel
Must check to see if this is on Fibe.

I cherish my childhood memories of Saturday morning cartoons, one the best times of my life, no doubt. I vividly remember as a four year old way back in the late 60's, waking up my little sister who was still a toddler...bugging her to wake up and watch cartoons with me, lol. Oh, the memories. The 70s were even better, as I was approaching teen hood and was more aware of my surroundings, lol.

But, nature took it's course, I grew older and more cynical...for I just can't watch those cartoons anymore...I mean, I still appreciate them, still love them...but I prefer the nostalgic memories of yesteryear...than actually watch them now. Perhaps it's sad, but it is what it is.

I don't have kids, and maybe that's why I have detached myself from that type of viewing.

Okay, time to watch my Sons of Anarchy on DVR now, lol.

That was my favorite cartoon in the late 60s, I was like four...but still kept on watching it until my teens, lol.

I lost interest after Superpowers: Galactic Guardians. I know now I did miss out on some good stuff later on like R-S Superman and Mighty Mouse. I was probably 13 but still watch the weekday toons way on into the '90s. I didnt much care for some of the other more kiddie toons but I really enjoyed The Smurfs when it was new.

I think its true that the anticipation was a part of the fun. Kids in school would even talk about their favorites during lunch, so it was a shared experience that will most likely never be duplicated again.

Is only having cartoons for a couple hours on Saturday mornings really better? Or just different?

I have a HUGE warm nostalgia for tracking through the TV Guide, circling which shows I would watch on Saturday. I even loved the preview shows the networks would run each Fall in prime to promote the new Saturday morning lineup.

I have to agree with some of the others above- had you pitched me availability to my favorite cartoons all the time??? and have it on mobile devices???? My head would've exploded! Even now, I watch way too much retro TV (ME TV, Antennae TV, etc.) because I have access to it whenever I want.
                WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

Yeah, that's probably true for about everyone. In an "instant access, microwave, 24/7 pop culture" , young people growing up don't have to wait for too many things and so are cheated out of the joy of anticipation. Cartoons were a Saturday morning thing that we really looked forward to.

Other things that were special back then that kids might not appreciate today...

                  Eating fast food...
                  Holiday television specials...
                  Drive-in movies...
                  Megos!

I tell my kids that there was something special about everybody in the country watching the same show and talking about it the next day at school. Just weren't as many choices. Nowadays, with infinite choices, everybody is in there own little world.

Yes, the commonality factor. When you could walk up to any kid at school and say, "Hey did you watch Happy Days last night?" or "Wasn't Superfriends great on Saturday?" or the ever popular, "I can't wait for part 2 of the Six Million Dollar Man!" We were kinda all in it together, 'yknow? And even though I have a big Saturday morning collection, that is the only time I watch it...on Saturday morning. I like to keep my anticipation, even though I've seen them all, I like to recapture the magic. I can watch this stuff w/ a child's heart. And I like to throw some commercials and Schoolhouse Rock in there. And yeah, I watch all the retro channels all the time too!

"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
