Wow, I see a couple of teachers that would be in serious legal trouble if they pulled this type of crap these days! And they would certainly be in serious trouble with me if anything like this was done with my kids.

I don't even recall rope climbing, but then again, I've blocked out a lot of things that happened in the living hell known as gym glass.

The U.S. had the Presidential Physical Fitness test that we had to do every year, and it was similar to what you describe: situps in a minute, standing long jump, 600 yard run, shuttle run, etc.

I passed the pre police academy obstacle course in my early 20s back in the day (was eventually disqualified due to other factors)...I was a decent athlete in those days, as I played high school football, and did some wrestling. But I'm not gonna lie, that damn rop was the toughest thing for me, I could do a few pull ups (but arms would tire quickly), but was always a big dude...no matter how strong I'd get, if you are big, you will struggle climbing that rope. I could go for about half way up there, but could never reach the top, just too big, larger than the average sized high schooler. And these are the days were I could bench press in the mid 300s, and still struggle with that bloody rope, lol.

I honestly don't remember ever having to do this.

I purposely took PE in Summer school to avoid doing alot of physical stuff. PE in Summer school in FL is easier due to the heat and fear of heat exhaustion. The worst thing we had to do was the mile run. I collapsed at the end. Seriously fainted.

Could never do a chin up. I was ok at sit ups, and touching my toes.

I got a JV letter in Tennis... which I spent most of the time injured due to ankle sprains and fractures. Multiple.

Now I do 5ks and 10ks for fun. I'm weird like that.

Probably still couldn't climb a rope. But I can run 10 miles without fainting now.
