I thought it was okay and saw it twice in the theater, but I think a lot of the failure has to do with a couple things: 1) people don't know the character, they know Arnold (and Mamoa isn't Arnold), and 2) the story was kind of a generic sword and sorcery job. They should have adapted one of Howard's original stories, like Red Nails or Beyond the Black River.

Since the Howard stories are now public domain, you can make Conan movies based on those stories as long as you don't have Conan in the title. And now a new film's on the way: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3153498/

I own it on DVD now and we watch it regularly. It's weird how that works sometimes.

I saw that in the theatre opening night too - I really loved it - but I've seen movies I've turned around on like that for sure.

Gilliam used to be one of my favorite filmmakers, and I've seen every one of his movies since "The Fisher King" in the theatre. I hated his last 3 movies though, and now "Zero Theorem" is playing 4 blocks away from me and I just can't bring myself to go. Very sad.

Yeah, Thompson was my idol in high school but I think I just found the whole theatre experience unpleasant. It just needed to soak in a little, I guess.

Hercules is the latest. Yeah, I was that one guy, but I had good time.

              Was Flash Gordon a hit?

I've seen too many to count.

I love this film, I've seen it three times and liked it more each time. I'm saddened that the proposed trilogy won't be made.

I saw John Carter its opening weekend. Flawed, bur I enjoyed it. Don't think it's achieved any classic status yet, cult or otherwise.

John Carter was a fine film. Definite misfire on the part of Disney's usually-on target marketing.

Has anyone mentioned Office Space? That was a total dud in the theater, but now everyone quotes it.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century....

Scarface......believe me, when it came out no one liked it...
The reviews were bad but years later after cable and the rise of "gangsta" rap, it became a cult favorite.

I forgot the title but it was a space movie starring John Boy and George Peppard.

I remember the spaceship looking like boobs
