As long as you're not in the "Requiem for Methuselah" age bracket, you're still ok, Mike...

Consider this. I am exactly half the age of John Williams. When Williams was my age (41) he had not yet written the score for Jaws, which would kick off his unbelievable body of work (Star Wars, Close Encounters, Superman, E.T., Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Harry Potter, Home Alone, etc, etc).

The way I see it, if I follow Mr. Williams' trajectory, my best is yet to come!

And as of a week ago I'm 2 years older, it's just a number.

I'm thirty seven and feel great since school got out today! As I grow older though my mental state more closely affects how I feel physically.

In the same sense of topic...when I was a kid (in the '80s and early '90s), folks that were in their 80s were born in the early half of the century and were the age of 40 in the 1940s and 1950s. Now, when I encounter someone who is 80, I think to myself, "Wow, that person was 40 in the early '70s!"

Born in 1982 myself, the '70s never seemed that far back to me. It's hard to explain, and I think only people my age really get it, but I have to admit it's somewhat depressing to me.

I've never been fond of the passage of time.

Wait until you hit the half-century mark,

If genetics are any indication I still have over 40 years left. Here's hoping.

Hey, I figure as long as I'm not gumming applesauce with a pee bag strapped to my leg, I'm doing great.

I'm the same age as Tom Cruise and Matthew Broderick (we are all within three months of each other).

                    Not so bad...

Robert Downey Jr. is one day younger that I am. And he seems pretty youthful, despite the occasional trip to see Betty Ford. So that's my marker.

oh by marker I mean RDJ, not trips to the Betty Ford Clinic...

You want to feel old? Carroll O"Connor was 46 when All in the Family first aired in 1971.

Good ol Merle Haggard released a song called "Thirty Again" when he was turning 50, back in 1987. It pretty much resumes whatever I feel about growing old, cause I feel years are running on like months and I'm getting nearer to the big 40. Thing is I feel I am not better in any way to whatever I was like when I was 30 or near. I mean physically, mentally, etcetera. I'm definitely NOT looking forward to that!

ANYWAY, my favorite lines of that Hag's song are:

"Youth should be saved for the last, but it's wasted for the young and the fast"

"They say life starts at 50... we've been lied to, my friend, I wish I could just could be 30... again"

Here's the song in case you guys want to hear it:

I try not to think about it too much. There's not a whole lot you can do about it, right? I do find my self surprised almost daily when I think of how long ago something happened. I met my wife 15 years ago, and that alone seems crazy to me.
