MTV has sucked since the 90's, when they cut out their music videos, for tv shows. The end started when they introduced the Real World.....they spun off other channels to play videos and even then, they separated the music. Which makes no sense, the idea was to introduce new music that people normally would never listen to.

If you do a search on youtube, there is a person who's managed to piece together MTV playlists from '82, '83, '84. Not sure why no '81. But very cool seeing this individual aggregate these videos. He even has some with the old interstitials and call outs.

On another note, for those of you in Seattle or nearby, EMP, the Experience Music Project Museum, is having an exhibit starting on the 17th called Spectacle: The Music Video and basically they will showcasing important videos in music history. They reached out to me requesting music videos for the exhibit and opening night party but I realized that even though they requested a list of pertinent videos, it was missing some key videos that influenced a lot of current day artists. So I provided them with some great content and yes, that Robert Palmer one is definitely included.

So if you are in Seattle, please check it out the exhibit and get ready to relive the glory days of MTV from the 80's through the 90's.

All of MTV's channels stink. MTV,MTV 2,VH-1,VH-1 Classic. Although some videos do show up on VH-1 Classic,it seems all they play any more is movies.

                  ^^
The irony of that is VH-1 houses the largest collection of music videos on the planet and rare ones too.

Well, I'll be in Seattle in July, will it still be there then? I love the EMP. My family and I always have such a good time there.

Yes, it should be through summer. Don't know the cut off date but I would assume after Bumbershoot.

Finally, a reality check for all those who (paraphrasing the vid) want to "rebel against The Man".

It should be required watching for anyone who enters this thread... or, at least, anyone over 30 who pines for "the good old days" of rock n' roll.

I don't think I can rip and share this thing fast enough.

                              THIS.

Re: MTV, yep YouTube pretty much has taken over from MTV. But, man, I do miss stuff like IRS' The Cutting Edge, the Basement Tapes, the Concerts, etc. Also, MARTHA QUINN.
