Old 45 records you used to listen to.

Back in the day it was all my older sister's hand-me-down 45's that influenced a big part of my future music likes.

To this day everytime I hear a Tom Jones song I think of his record label with a parrot on it.

Same goes for many more songs including.....

Neil Sedaka's Bad Blood with a sort of Thomas the Tank Engine on the label .....

Green Tambourine which had an Indian multi-armed woman on the label ....

    MoTown's city map ....

    and so on.

Back in the day these record labels screamed "come play me"

I think today's kids are missing something when the only thing they can associate a song with is a number on an MP3 player.

Also, ever noticed you never forget where your records skipped ?

To this day whenever I hear Get Off My Cloud I expect it to skip right after "don't hang around"

Make that old 45s I STILL listen to! 2 record totes and another cardboard box of them. Some of them I bought, some were gifts, and some were hand me downs from my older brother, but all loved.

And I do a little trick of snapping my fingers at the skip of some of my records. My after school class used to be amazed at how I did that!

What do you mean, "used to"?

I still have over 400 LP soundtracks that I will never part with. Some of them are really rare, and I love them. Only downside, my player died on me, and new ones are expensive.
Getting a new one is top of my list.

Yep, the purple and yellow Gordy label for the Temptations, the yellow and brown Tamla label for Marvin Gaye, the orange and purple T-Neck label for the Isley Bros. I mention all black groups because...

When I was really little (pre-reading age), my older brother used to try and trick me. Whenever I asked him to play a certain song, he'd take a record w/ the same label w/ a different song on it, and try to tell me that was what I picked. But I knew better, b/c even though I could read, I knew how many words to look for and the shape they made forming the title, so he could never fool me! (He mostly played black groups, which is why I remember those labels so well.

I think you're right about people enjoying music on another level when it's got a physical component - but I think that's why vinyl sales have been increasing for years now. I actually don't know of any music store in Toronto that doesn't sell vinyl. There was actually an independent retailer close to me who suffered a bit because they focused too much on CDs for too long before giving into the "new" craze.

I love vinyl and many of my first memories of music from the early eighties were from records. My sister and I had The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on a record as well as a 45 of Footloose. We wore it out. It's definitely got a better sound. I listened to goodbye yellow brick road for the first time on vinyl a few years ago and preferred it to the cd.

Of course, my parents had a turntable, etc. with 45's and LPs. But, I had a Sears record player and the first 45 that I can recall playing (and I loved this song) was The Steve Miller Band's "Rockin' Me." It was released in 1976 and I was two years old.

Ditto. I'm collecting my top favorite albums of all time on colored vinyl. So far so good. As for RSD, got everything I wanted although now I regret not getting the Pixies with the bonus 45 that was never announced to the public. Looking forward to RSD Black Friday!

I do too. I have a 12" red vinyl single of "Cherry Bomb" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I also have a very rare test pressing in yellow vinyl of Shaun Cassidy's "Live In Concert" album.

Anyone remember heart shaped colored vinyl? I knew this guy named Stephen in the 7th grade who had a red heart shaped 45 of Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love".

I'm pretty sure there's still a surplus of the Pixies release with the 7" around here. PM me!

I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE Pixies fan, but I was disappointed by the EPs which make up most of the new album - so I passed on it.

The only record I wanted on RSD that I missed out on was Life Without Buildings "Any Other City". I really hope it's getting another re-release at some point.
