i got to meet Bruce Campbell at a screening of Evil Dead 2 around 2002 and he couldn't have been a nicer guy.
my friends were doing the screening, and he was their invited guest. the crowd they normally get was TRIPLED because of his appearance, and afterwards he stayed until 4AM signing and taking pics with fans. they kept telling him they could cut it short, because it was going on so late, but he insisted on staying until every fan got a moment with him. he gave his all, every time, up until the last girl in line.
later on, they told him that they took in way more money than expected, and could pay him more than the $500 they agreed to earlier. he said "nah, $500 is what we agreed to, that's fine."
Before I got married I use to go out with the promotions girl at our local country station, she always had to tickets and backstage passes. So up through the early 90's I met all kinds of coutry singers.Aaron Tippen Alan Jackson Clint Black Collen Raye, just to name a few.
I used to work at a Barnes & Noble branch and then a staionary store in the mid-late 1990's near ABC television-accross the street from where Wee currently works. Both stores are gone now but on any given day you could meet a celeb. People I have met/seen in person:
Bill Butel & Joel Siegel of Eyewitness News, Harrsion Ford, Jeffery Tambor, Mary-Louise Parker, Alec Baldwin, Andie McDowall, Bob Balaban, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgewick, Jasmine Guy, A. Whitney Brown.
Many soap opera stars like Randolph Mantooth, ( he was in Emergency and BSG but in the 90's he was in a soap called Port Charles. Nice guy in person), Morgan Fairchild who was also on the soap at the time & she was still pretty hot in person! Lisa Peluso, Keith Hamilton Cobb, ( when he was on All My Children-before he was on Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda). Christopher Cousins who played Greg Houston on Another World in the 80's. People always recognized him for that role. He was a huge Sci-Fi fan and has only appeared in a few SF TV shows/films. You could always catch him walking around with a SF book in his hand.
There was some actress from The Young And The Restless, whose name I cannot recall, who really P.O.'d me off because I was working the cash register and couldn't leave the paying customers to get someone to help her find an item. It was just so damn busy and she threw a real hissy fit because all I could do was tell her, if we have it in stock it would have to be on that shelf right there in front of you and she didn't see it and we probably didn't have the item.
I missed out on meeting Kim Basinger, Roddy McDowall, Michael Moore, Katie Couric. I missed meeting Joan Lunden, who my boss at the time said was really just a big snob in person. She treated people like feeces.
Let's see. Mine have been mainly wrestlers at autograph signings:
Ted DiBiase
Chris Benoit (responsible for another of my favorite moments. I got my picture made with Benoit and Malenko at a benefit show. After they got the picture, I thanked them for the picture. Benoit stopped me and said, "No. Thank you for coming." Very very cool moment)
Eddie Guerrero (great experience - Eddie is somebody I really looked up to, and meeting him is still one of my favorite experiences)
Perry Saturn
Dean Malenko
Shane Douglas
Justin Credible
Ricky Steamboat
Tracy Smothers
Doug Gilbert
Kurt Angle
Samoa Joe
Gail Kim
Rhino
AJ Styles
Christian Cage
Jerry Lawler (awesome experience for somebody who grew up in the old USWA country)
Although I do have to admit I'm really jealous of Joe after finding out he met all those Von Erichs. I've just recently gotten to start watching some of the old World Class shows and am blown away by them. Although I've picked up signed photos of Kerry and Kevin, I still wish I could have met them back then.
Axe (nicest guy ever)
Brutis -- also a nice guy
Sgt Slaughter -- also a nice guy
Tito Santana --- SUPER nice guy
King Kong Bundy --- Nice guy
Bam-Bam --- another nice guy
Superfly Snuka --- very cool guy
Doink -- ok guy
Mr Perfect -- ok guy
Wrestlers that I thought were very snotty
Bret Hart --- Let everyone know he didn't wanna be there
Bruno --- see Bret but worse
One funny celeb experience I witnessed first hand......
Years ago, at a Chiller, I was there and took my nephew (he was about 20 at the time)
So we're standing there in the corner (of the main room) loitering and all of a sudden Adam West comes through the door right next to us (he just arrived)
He bolts over to my nephew and says "hey kid, where's the head ?"
My nephew just points in the direction of where the toilets are..... and say's "Over there, Batman"
West then runs like a bat out of hell in the direction of the can saying, "thanks kid"
Quentin Tarantino -- A couple of different times at his annual QT Fest in Austin. Once argued with him over why he showed such crappy movies at the fest, when he made such great ones.
Don Coscarelli (director of Beastmatser, PHANTASM, etc.) -- I've met and hung out with Don on several occasions. He's a very modest and unassuming guy; you'd never think he's a Hollywood filmmaker. (I inked the PHANTASM comic book that my friend scripted. My friend is now Coscarelli's writing partner on every project Don does.) Also met the cast of PHANTASM: Angus Scrimm, Reggie Bannister, and Mike. All really amazing, down-to-earth dudes.
Burne Hogarth (Tarzan artist from the 50s, also known for his "DYNAMIC" drawing books) -- He took me around the San Diego convention in 1995 to meet several other artist idols of mine, including Ernie Chan and Alfredo Alcala, who taught me "the secret of the leg"!

We both got a good laugh out of that
That is the best story ever. Better than Adam meeting my wife and going "Helloooo there". I'm sure he does that to all the pretty gals, but really cool for Batman to be smoothin' on my wife.
I've met quite a few over the years, I can't even recall them all. Many, many hard rock/metal musicians especially, some pro-wrestlers, a few actors...Two notable favorites were Rob Halford from Judas Priest, who was very cool and friendly, and King Diamond, who had some funny stories to tell about a mutual friend of ours, he had me cracking up for quite a while. Ozzy and Sharon, Lemmy, Rob Zombie, all the Megadeth guys, etc....Oh, more recently I met Jimmy Crespo, former guitarist for Aerosmith (1979-1984) and Rod Stewart's band, Jimmy was very cool and still an amazing guitarist.
I saw Michael Stipe (REM) in a bar with some skanky chick.
I saw Woody Harrelson in the same bar. "The Hanger" in Carbondale, Illinois. Apparently his dad is in Marion Federal Penetentiary for being a mob hitman or something. Anyway he was out partying.
Oh yeah, and I partied with Lindsay Lohan, last week. I'm kind of a big deal.
Ok that last one isn't true. But the others are.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."
Elvis when I was a baby (does that even count?)
Vince Coleman (STL Cardinals)
Ken Daley and wife (STL Cardinals)
There were some more of the (STL Cardinals) as I cannot think of all of their names right now.
Jim Hart (ex QB for the EX STL Football Cardinals)
Kelly Chase (STL Blues Hockey)
Tony Twist (STL Blues Hockey)
Jenna Jameson
Amber Lynn
Ginger Lynn
Raquel Darrian
Elizabeth Hilden
Kobe Tai
Janine Lindemulder
Alisha Class
Swedish Bikini Team
Ron Jeremy (I even took pictures for him) - Real, super cool and down to earth guy.
Tom Wopat (I missed Daisy Duke aka Catherine Bach - She was signing at the same event - The line was just too ridiculous as one may imagine) This was when they were both in their prime. I also missed out on the original Kiss members in their make up. They were not available for signing yet. I heard their names being called to appear at the bandstand. I really wanted to stay and get Ace Frehley's auto as he was my favorite at the time. The place was a zoo and the guys were not even up there to sign yet.
The heavy metal group - Extreme
The Vinnie Vincent Invasion - all four Vinnie, Dana Strum and....
Iron Maiden's mascot "Eddie"
Janey Lane from Warrant
Paul Stanley from Kiss
The heavy metal group - Overkill
I was the ball boy for the Harlem Globetrotters when I was a kid. I have several autos and pictures "somewhere around here" from a lot of the players back in the 80's Geese Osby and Curley Neal days
I went to High School with Don Mattingly's cousin. I sat right next to her in class. Although I never met him personally. She did talk about him.
As with any list there is no doubt some that I may have forgotten. I need to find the pics again and see if I can make out the names of the autographs that I have.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
