Norman Rockwell. As a kid I would just marvel over his stuff. I still love his stuff today.

It's all good! -
Does anyone know of any other artists that does artwork as nice and as comparable as Boris?[/QUOTE]
His wife (I believe her name is Julie Bell) is pretty darn good herself. She draws with a very similar style, and often works in the same genres of sci-fi and fantasy."Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

I'm a fan of Rockwell's too....guy really captured an era.
Frederick Remington and Charles M. Russel are probably my absolute favorites in the world of fine art. These guys kept the old west alive, and their stuff inspired darn near every Western film ever made!"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

If I am going classical, I'd say Leonardo DaVinci and Michaelangelo.
More modern, I love Norman Rockwell, Bob Timberlake, and Charles Schulz."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I really like comic book art by Michael Golden, John Byrne, ( well I used to), Bernie Wrightson, Jack Kirby, Steve Rude, Bissette & Totleben, Mike Mignola, Alex Ross, Trevor Von Eden, Paul Smith.
I have been very impressed with the art of Roger Dean and his brother, (I forget his name). Their art has graced many YES album covers but they have done much more than just that. I bought a book of their art some years ago. I'll have to dig it out. Robert McCall and John Berkeley who have done some really great space art. ILM said that the Star Wars Medical Frigate ship was based on Berkeley's style of art. After seeing LOTR I really love the art of Alan Lee and John Howe. Vargas, Frazetta and Boris-also great.
There's another guy I am forgetting. I have one of his books at home, ( I am at work right now), he draws devil women and voluptious women and his style is a lot like mixing the styles of Darwin Cooke and Mike Allred. I think his name is COOP.Last edited by johnmiic; Mar 17, '08, 1:40 PM.Comment

I am into artists who work with ink, mostly comic guys, bernie wrightson, alex raymond, mike allred, joe kubert, jack davis, jack kirby...there's more but you get the idea. I like people with a crisp bold style and beautiful lines (and lots of black). Most of these guys are older artists or have older looking styles. It's just what I prefer.
In the area of fine art, my favorite artist is Michelango Buonorotti. His Sistine Chapel ceiling and the Last Judgment wall are the greatest works of figurative art ever created. He was also an incredibly gifted sculptor, which is a bit of an understatement, but then words cannot express the subtle beauty and soul-soothing power of his work.Comment
