When I was in 5th grade (1979), I started a contest with my classmates about who was a better band, Boston or Kiss. My older brother had the Boston debut album, and it made a big impression on me. So when a bunch of kids in my class got all crazy about Kiss (which I never did), I lobbied hard to convince them Boston was better

The ironic thing is that today, should either a Boston or Kiss song come on the car radio (which they often do), I immediately switch channels

EDIT to add: Whereas I'll almost always listen to a Cars song.. Cars win!

For Boston : Boston I can listen to every song on that album except for More Than a Feeling, which radio has totally killed for me

For the Cars I love that album to death --- to me it represents being in high school (which it was new when I was in HS)

I'm burned out on Both thanks to classic rock radio.

The Cars! And...I loved Heartbeat City. Probably my favorite Cars album from top to bottom.

I adore the Cars, big time. But I also love Boston. It truly just depends on my mood that day. I agree with an earlier mentioned assessment that the Cars had a more solid catalog overall, though. But those two debut albums are really amazing. Forced to choose, I guess I'd have to go with Boston's debut, by a very slight margin, mainly because the guitar playing and tone on that disc was so influential on me.

They're both very good debut albums... But, if I had to pick, I'd go with "The Cars"...
