I'm a Cars guy, especially the songs where Orr sang lead. Not that I change the station when Boston comes around.Comment

Cars for me. My favorite skating song in the 80s was "Shake It Up"."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

The bands aren't all that comparable since your looking at two different types of music. (Are they being compared because the Cars originated out of Boston?) I don't know about Pop vs Rock because I'd argue that some of the Cars songs rock pretty darn well. I'd say that 70's Classic Rock vs 80's New Wave is closer to the mark but overall one band is lightyears ahead of the other.
Boston has two good but incredibly overplayed songs. The rest is mediocre at best. They're known mostly for cool looking album covers.
The Cars have no less than Five solid albums. They are easily one of the most renowned bands of the 80's. They have so many good songs, their original greatest hits album couldn't fit all of their "hits." Drive is one of the staple songs of the decade. Phoebe Cates comes out of the pool in Fast Times to Moving In Stereo and You Might Think was at the time an innovative music video.
I just don't see Boston in the same league as the Cars. One band is iconic, the other not so much."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

Love them both, but they couldn't be more different. If I had to choose only one, I'd probably go with The Cars, but only up to and including Shake It Up. They lost me with Heartbeat City.Comment
