Maybe like another Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan? Come on down! If the price is right that is. Only time will tell.

Then....just as you said in the years that followed over time the market totally tanked out on these. I have the Joe Montanna retirment piece also which was real hot. Both Ripken variations. That is just what I can remember off of the top of my head as stand outs back in the day. I had bought cases of those things (baseball, hockey, football) kind of like your neighbor only not to the extent of the $50,000 that he had spent. I sold some of my extas back in the late 90's and kept a big portion of the doubles and commons. No doubt they are probably not worth a lot these days as I have not checked prices in a good while. I was searching on eBay as a reference months or so ago. The sellers I seen that was selling these figures were pretty much giving them away compared to what they originally cost as the stores when they first came out. I "think" they were like around $6.00 if I can remember correctly. It has been a while you know. I made money on the big pieces at the time and kept the duds while building my own collection with the "good" pieces. I still have a lot stored away as I had held on to them thinking like most that "someday" they might just be like Mego's or an equivalent valued collectible. It is nice to hear from others such as yourself that has collected or atleast recollects the neat stuff back in the day as well. Like Mego's they bring back good memories in time. To me that is worth the price of holding on to them alone. I use to be big into baseball cards at one point in the early 80's to mid 90's. I was fortunate enough to get in on the 84, 85 Topps Rookie market which was HOT at that time as well. I just bought a Beckett price guide the other day. This is the first Beckett I have bought since the late 80's. Wow! How times have changed. I can remember paying like $2.00 for a Beckett back then. Back then I could hardly wait for the next Beckett to come out each month. Then in the early 90's I believe was the Baseball strike and that kind of put a bad taste in my mouth for a while. For whatever they are worth I still have those older Beckett issues stored as well. Again, good memories. I just paid like $10.00 for this new Beckett. I am going to see if I still have anything worth while in my card collection. I hope that they did not tank too bad like the SLU. At any rate it is nice hearing from you. Take care!
Yeah they aren't worth crap anymore,I was one of the ones who spent mad money on these.I remember the Marino Rookie selling for about $150-$200 on ebay in 99 and now I see them for $25-$45,you could probably get the Favre Rookie for like $10,I know I see the Bird,Jordan and Kobe Rookies for like $10-$15 on ebay all the time I still kept alot of mine though, all my Marino's,P.Manning Rookie,Kobe,Moss rookie pieces and stuff like that

I was kind of afraid of that regarding the values. I want to "think" the reason for these tanking so bad is the Todd McFarlane figures releases which are much more detailed. Speaking of Todd McFarlane stuff I need to hop over to eBay and check out prices on The Spawn stuff that I collected around the same era. I hope that these atleast retained some decent value. Thanks for sharing the info Toys2cool.

          No problem man,

actually I think ebay's responsible for these losing so much value.I guess a lot of people were buying them, and when ebay came along everyone all over the USA started to list them and the demand wasn't really as high as before.

Now with Spawn,I hate to tell you this bro but it's the same thing

I know I'm getting totally off subject here but is the Montana retirement piece the Convention figure?

I remember going to the Delaware convention and they were allowing people to purchase 10 figures at $15 a piece I think. These figures were extremely desirable so I bought my allotment of 10 and as I was walking through the convention, dealers were offering me $50 and $60 a piece for any I wanted to sell so I sold 5 of them for around $300, which essentially paid for the figures plus all of my travel costs.

I kind of feel sorry for Warren Sapp. He also retired yesterday but you don't hear anything because of Favre retiring.

Can somebody fix the title? Misspelled Favre. And didn't Sapp retire right after the season ended for the Raiders?
