Queen made a huge mistake.

I think May describes it well.
It could have ended up as "Cohen playing one of his OTT characters."
If there's one thing I disliked about Hugo, it was his role and portrayal of the police officer.
And I know that Mercury was promiscuous. And that it killed him. I won't deny that. He was also a kind and caring man, a brilliant musician (as are all the members from Queen), so let's not forget that. I think Queen are trying to avoid a movie that ends up as "The Great Mercury Gay Orgy".
I think those scenes should be in the movie, but in a balanced way..

^^ agree, He was such a larger than life character to begin with that it doesnt have to be about that. I hope it still gets made and the actor reconsiders. Queen, as great as they are, really seem underrated for the musical genuises that they are. A film (hopefully filled with their great music) could be really awesome done the right way.Comment

I read Brian May's account of why SBC is no longer involved- and he has a point....sort of. I just wonder if Brian May is too close- (who would've known Mercury better than his bandmates?) and it was all HE could see- SBC being bigger than the role he was portraying.
It will be interesting to see who they get to replace him and what the final cut looks like.Comment
