It's a dumb scripted show, but it reflects the interests and personalities of their prime demo. As far as the "faith" angle, it gets a little old when the southern masses hold up a bunch of scripted reality show personalities as some "defenders of the faith". A little family prayer at the end of the show? C'mon. That's pretty weak.

I have nothing against the show, but it's not my type of programming.

I know of it. Hard not to when it's all over the place. But I've never actually watched an episode. Kinda out of my range of interests.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My mother in-law bought a book related to the show two weeks ago at Walmart - I had never heard about it before.

              Hmmmm....

Ultimately it's not THAT different from most sitcoms, so the public's familiar with the formula. It's a "reality" show, which has been a popular flavouring for a while now, and for some strange reason the "hillbilly" thing comes around every decade or so. So it fits nicely into the pop culture rotation.

It seems like the point of all the other reality shows out there is "look how stupid these people are". You end up laughing at the people in these shows not with them. Like the Kardasians or Honey Boo-Boo or Small Town Security. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Duck Dynasty however it's as if the cast are in on the joke. There really is a sense that these guys are silly and they know it. There does seem to be a wholesome quality about the family interactions with just enough goofy exploits to make it fun. At least for me that is ...

I'm not a regular watcher of these shows but there are times when I have nothing to do and I'll channel surf a little and inevitably I end up stopping if I find Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Duck Dynasty or Dinners, Drive-ins and Dives.

It caters to the Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cableguy crowd. As a southerner, I can just go to the local diner to find this type of crowd. The only difference is that those guys are rich. Some may find it entertaining for various reasons. Incidentally, I heard that Honey BooBoo and fam' were moving to this area.

I rather see a well written sitcom. If they were to put '70s shows like Alice, One day at a time, Threes company, Carol Burnett, etc on at night I would watch them over any thing thats currently new on cable other than maybe The Big Bang Theory (which I think is starting to lose a little steam).

I have never seen it but also wondered what the huge popularity is about- I still have no desire to watch any of it.

Of course it's scripted just like every other "reality" show. The family business / net worth is estimated to be in the 20 million dollar range- they might act slow or dim on the show- but it takes some brains to rack up that kind of cash.
