    The Final Countdown

Anyone ever see this movie? I love the originality of it. An aircraft carrier goes back in time just before Pearl Harbor. How cool is that! Sorry, just bought the dvd and watched it. Great movie!

Is this the movie with Michael Pere???
If so it was awesome.I loved that movie the F/X were very cool as well the guys on deck scene in particular. If I'm not mistaken this movie was supposedly "based on a true story" note air quotes.

The film with Michael Pare was called the Philladelphia Experiment which was also a great film...I think John Carpenter was involved in the background on that one...one of the producers I think.
Final Countdown is a absolute gem of a movie...it took the implications of time travel seriously and I loved the fact that in the end they were quite prepared to forsake the consequences of changing the future to try and stop the attack happeneing...Gerry Davis ..co-creator of the cybermen was involved in the script...so no doubt all that time travelling with the Doctor helped out there.

I think your thinking of the "Philadelphia Experiment" my Manitoban friend. That was the one where they tried to turn a ship invisible with all kinds of horrific and wierd results. The experiment really did happen...and didnt work. There were survivors who swore to their dying day that many of the crew onboard the ship were found imbedded into the ships walls and floors after the test, and a couple of crew where never found again. I remember there was a guy on Coast to Coast AM who had a story about a couple of WWII era sailors turning up in the seventies, apparently thrown through time by the experiment....which is what the book and film were based on.

The Final Countdown had a seventies era aircraft carrier thrown back to Pearl Harbour on December 7th after going through a weird storm. After some cool stuff like F-14's fighting Japanese Zeros, they are returned to the present to find somebody they thought they lost in the forties....well, I dont want to give away the ending.

As TXTEACH said, its a great movie!
It was loosely based on a Twilight Zone episode where a 60's era tank squad find themselves at Little Big Horn. At the end of the episode, the tank squads names appear on a historic marker identifying them with the dead buried at Little Big Horn.

I have it, good movie. They managed a lot with the small budget they had.

Final Countdown starred Kirk Douglass and Martin Sheen.

I saw it at the theater on its first run.

I love the entire movie except the ending.

                ******SPOILERS!!!*******

I just HATED the aircraft carrier going back to its proper time just before they were about to destroy the entire Japanese fleet. The filmmakers should've gone all out, lol.

Other than that, it was an excellent movie.

More like F-14s toying with Japanese Zeros, lol.

One F-14 would take an entire squadron of Zeros without braking a sweat.

The AC Carrier destroying the Imperial Fleet would have been cool, and would have set up a sequel showing the results of the time meddling.

^^ We weren't before? I guess when they got back to the present, they would be surrounded by inferior electronics and crappy gas guzzling American made cars. Even worse, if the war ended early, no Godzilla!!!!

This is one of the movies that Lloyd Kaufman who later founded Troma studios was involved in. I met that nut, I think he's great!
