I was going to say the very same thing (I'm agnostic). Having to say bless you would be hypocritical of me, but didn't want to brake the forum rules of discussing religion...so it's all on you, lol.I'm an atheist, so I've politely asked my co-workers not to bless me when I sneeze. It makes me uncomfortable and I then feel like I have to say it back to them if they sneeze. It's a ridiculous superstition anyway. It originated because people once thought your soul was trying to escape when you sneezed, and saying a blessing was supposed to put it back.
Nobody says anything when you cough though. Go figure.
I mean, gesundheit would be more logical to me, but hardly anyone says that anymore.
P.S. Funny how Mexicans, who for the most part are religious (Catholic), don't say the equivalent of bless you when someone sneezes, they say salud, which translates to health, go figure.
But to me, that doesn't make sense either.
I mean, if you sneeze. Does that mean your health is in jeopardy?
I liked how you pointed out coughing, that was great, lol.Last edited by Hector; Sep 6, '13, 12:06 PM.sigpicComment

Yeah, I wasn't trying to debate religion or anything...LOL. It's just some of my past and present my co-workers have thought I was being rude for not saying anything when they sneeze, so by explaining why to them, they don't mind. I just wouldn't feel right.I was going to say the very same thing to Sharry (I'm agnostic), and having to say bless you would be hypocritical of me, but didn't want to brake the forum rules of discussing religion...so it's all on you, lol.
