When someone sneezes do you say gesundheit or bless you ?

When someone sneezes do you say gesundheit or bless you ?

I don't and feel kinda uncomfortable if somebody says it to me.

I have now idea why but it feels awkward for me to say thank you after I get a bless you

    Weird ?

    Yes, weird.

On a side note, in my family anytime anybody'd burp, my dad would automatically say "Bring it up again and we'll vote on it".
....or.... "What'd one burp say to the other? Let's go out the other end and be a little stinker".

He didn't have anything funny for sneezes though, except gazoontite, which is what I tend to use now (unless it's more aquaintance-like, then it's Bless You). I've always felt strangely comforted by 'bless you'.

I always say "Gesundheit" when someone sneezes. And just about everyone in my neck of the wood says either that or "Bless you". It's not weird to me at all.

When I was a kid and I would be disgusting and belch really loudly, my Mother would half-jokingly say "Next time why don't you just puke?" or "Next time get a bucket."

I say bless you. And if someone says anything to me after I sneeze I say thank you. I don't see anything weird with it at all. Actually, it's sort of a nice little courteous thing to do in a not-so courteous world.

I usually ignore them...I don't want no bloody germs going my way...if you have to sneeze...get as far away from me as possible, lol.

When I personally sneeze...I back off far away from anyone who is near me...I even turn around (and of course, cover myself)...and when I'm sneezing myself...I don't wanna hear either "Bless You", "Gesundheit", or the Spanish version, "Salud" (which means health)...I just wanna sneeze in peace...leave me alone...

P.S. BTW, I despise sneezing, I sometimes go up to seven sneezes in a row...I really hate it, lol.

Same here...as soon as I feel a sneeze coming on I turn and get as far away from people as possible.

I'll say "Bless you" but never want to end up in this situation....

I say Bless You. However, I usually wait until the person is done sneezing or only say it once.

I work with several people from India and I have noticed that they say "excuse me" when they sneeze.

As a pre-school teacher, I can say I have been sneezed on. Yuck! I have even been sneezed on by a dolphin in the Bahamas, (no lie!) through his blowhole. Salt water and boogie! EWWWWW! But I've always said Bless You, even to strangers, and appreciate when someone says it to me.

Wow Hector...how can you be so grumpy as something so simple as a sneeze? As long as folks turn away and cover it, or you turn away and cover it, it doesn't hurt to say Bless You.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I'm sure the one sneezing is going to survive my non blessing, lol.

Now excuse me, gotta finish Grumpy Old Men, what a great movie, lol.

I'm an atheist, so I've politely asked my co-workers not to bless me when I sneeze. It makes me uncomfortable and I then feel like I have to say it back to them if they sneeze. It's a ridiculous superstition anyway. It originated because people once thought your soul was trying to escape when you sneezed, and saying a blessing was supposed to put it back.

Nobody says anything when you cough though. Go figure.

Bless you, I say and thank those in return for blessing me. Blessings are always welcomed, no matter where or who they came from.
