I do like some country and have a lot of respect for artists such as Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson.

Interestingly enough, Freddie Fender never hit it big in Mexico, at least not to the general mainstream...although there is a country following in parts of Mexico, mainly the Northern region.

Now if you praise a bolero/ranchera singer like the late great Javier Solis, then you'll be loved by every single Mexican on earth, lol...

I LOVE Javier Solis, KING of the boleros.

I also love the immortal Pedro Infante, probably Mexico's most beloved singer ever.

After Solis and Infante...then I'd pick Jorge Negrete, Antonio Aguilar, Lola Beltran, Trio los Panchos, and Vicente Fernandez.

Oh, and Jose Alfredo Jimenez was Mexico's greatest songwriter.

Dude, I'm impressed!



P.S. What a shame the three BIG ones, Solis (post surgery gall-bladder complications), Infante (plane crash), and Negrete (hepatitis), all died in their 30s and 40s.
