George Jones - Good Year For The Roses
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
Crystal Gayle - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue
Hank Williams - Hey Good Lookin'
Don Williams - I Recall A Gypsy Woman
Glenn Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy
John Denver - Take Me Home Country Roads
Bellamy Brothers - Let Your Love Flow
Dolly Parton - Love Is Like A Butterfly
Kenny Rogers - Coward of The Count/Ruby
Kenny Rogers & the First Edition - Ruby is in my opinion one of the best songs ever written,
up there with John Lennon's - Imagine and The Beatles Let It Be.
Just great songs with great lyrics.
I think it is a superb cover of the Nine Inch Nails track. The Cash album that it comes from is the only time I have ever bought anything that comes close to country music.
"I should say I`m very much cleverer than any of the people who put me here. As a matter of fact, I could leave any time I wanted. It`s only a doll`s house after all. Anyway, I don`t mind. I like dolls" - The Mad Hatter, Arkham Asylum.
I am not a big fan of pure country music. I love a few artists like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., and some of the cross over country/pop like Shania Twain and Rascall Flatts.
But hands down if it is considered country music, John Denver is #1 on my list. I always liked his songs growing up but never really felt any powerful connection to his music until I became an adult.
Having grown up in Maryland my entire life, it is an interesting state in that it is relatively small in size comparatively but culturally it is so different from the Eastern Shore to the wealthy suburbs of Maryland that surround the District of Columbia to the inner cities of Baltimore to the mountain views of Western Maryland. I think the longest distance from one side of the state to the other would be maybe a 6 or 7 hour drive (and that's the longest distance meaning south eastern Maryland up to north western Maryland).
With that said, I always considered the neighboring state of West Virginia as a redneck/hillbilly territory. Now that I own a rental property in the mountains of West Virginia and have experienced what an extraordinarily beautiful state West Virginia really is, Take Me Home Country Roads really shows the powerful emotions that Denver felt about the beauty of the state.

Being from Alabama I love country music. There are way too many to list, like Alabama, Martina and Reba, but I think my all time favorite is Dolly's "I Will Always Love You". Classic...

I've been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Reed of late. I'll listen to Johnny and get depressed, listen to Waylon and get angry and rowdy, and listen to Jerry and have a laugh and even myself out.
