One of my favorite 80's bands. Right up there with Night Ranger. Saw them twice before Smith and Valory were let go, once with their replacements, and once with Augieri. I will say if Augieri hadn't had complications, they may have succeeded well without Steve Perry. He was really close to the same sound as Perry. I saw them once on the end tours and Perry wasn't the same. Even on the greatest hits album he cracks a couple of times, on some of the tracks done in Houston, I believe. Got to see Bad English once, and at that point, Schon and Cain hadn't lost a step. They were every bit as good as they were when they were with Journey.
Saw STYX once and loved them, but as mentioned was a big Night Ranger fan. Saw Jack Blades with Damn Yankees, with Tommy Shaw, and have to agree, when it came down to pure R&R, he wasn't that good. He pulled off the laid back songs of STYX but nothing they did really got extreme. NR is still one of my favorite live bands. Seen them 3 or 4 times. 38 Special was a pretty good live show. They had an incredible number of good songs for the limited discography they have.
Sammy Hagar is up there too. Man can simply put on a show. Was in Applebee's the other day and "Bad Motor Scooter" came on. I couldn't believe they played it but, I sang along. My 17 year old daughter said the song was cool and asked if I had it on CD. I said, Well yes I do!It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

Neil Schon married one of my wife's high school friends back in the 90's. She got to go the wedding but I had to friggin work mandatory overtime. I was major league ****ed off. I have a Journey live playlist on my ipod that gets played more than any. Schon's guitar work on Who's Crying Now live is SWEET. Big Styx, Night Ranger, Sammy Hagar fan, too. Late 70's - early 80's rock was the greatest music era.Comment

It's a real shame S. Perry & N. Schon went their Seperate Ways. I saw them perform in Dallas on the Raised on Radio tour, and it was excellent! I loved seeing Night Ranger perform just 3 years ago when they opened for Journey and Foreigner, both of whom had new singers! Night Ranger should have closed the show as they at least had all the original singing members.I post in thy general direction!Comment

Believe it or not,Leary was defending Perry at the time. He was with a bunch of other comedians and they were making fun of Perry. Leary quipped in that Perry may be ugly but he sure can sing pretty damn good.Comment

JOURNEY has been one of my favorites since I was very young. They were one of the first big concerts I attended as a young kid, saw 'em on the Frontiers tour with Bryan Adams opening, tenth row center. Definitely made an impression on me. Neal Schon is easily in my top ten biggest influences as a guitarist. Also, their earlier pre-Perry jazz/fusion rock stuff is sublime, deserves more credit than it gets.Comment
