83 was all about Return of the Jedi for me.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Return Of the Jedi is at the top of my list, followed by National Lampoon's Vacation, Jennifer Beals doing her thing in Flashdance(she definitely gave me a feeling), Octopussy(snicker, snicker), Never Say Never Again(Sean Connery's last appearance as Bond), and The Big Chill. I was entering my junior year at North Kitsap Sr. High in Poulsbo, WA. that fall. Jeez, I am getting older. Yes, I am a balding aging fanboy and I'm proud of it.Comment

The 83 movie that stands out the most for me is Scarface.
While I was going to college, I also had a side job as a security guard, and one of my locations was the Berkeley movie theater were Scarface was showing...must've seen that movie on and off about a hundred times in its first run, lol.sigpicComment

The Return of the Jedi. Vivid memories of going with our school to the theater that year. All of the merchandise and those Kenner figures, it was awesome. A classmate got a lightsaber from some ice-pop concourse! Can't believe it's been three decades since then. Oh, and since I've always been interested in music I can not leave unmentioned Staying Alive. Horrible film, terrific soundtrack. The Bee Gees had another huge hit in here back in the day with "Someone Belonging to Someone". Looking at things from the distance I believe that's now part of my own soundtrack.
1983... BMX days. Sighs.Comment

One more comment on Staying Alive. Back in the 90's when I saw it on VHS with some friends I remember saying "look, that scene captured a decade in a second!" referring to the moment when John Travolta crossed Sylvester Stallone when walking some NYC street...
Here's that particular scene:
I now also remember Superman III, but the greatest movie that year to me was The Return of the Jedi, hands down.Comment
