Wow, '83 I was a junior in high school. I remember Return of the Jedi at the movie theatre, and Stayin' Alive at the Drive-In. Man....
Hey, how about 40 years ago?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I also remember clear as day begging my dad to take me to see this. He finally broke down and took me to see it. The second the movie ended he said "That was a dumb movie!"
To this day I still tease him about it!
In 1983, I saw ROTJ in a small movie theatre in Johannesburg, South-Africa.
Weird experience, because just about everyone in the theatre was smoking and drinking beer.
"It's a trap!"
"Chill, man, just have another brew and light up a fresh smoke..."
When I came out, I thought the Ewoks were an alcohol and nicotine induced trip...

I was 16 then, licensed to drive, powerlifting, girls, rock concerts, girls, crashing graduation parties.. wow 10th grade. Not much into Megos at that time. But what a year that was!
Now, my wife and I (me for the 2nd time) just watched "Detroit Rock City" and although I was about 3-4 years younger than the characters depicted in the movie and they were a bit characature in nature, it was very accurate to the times. And to see the Mego Kiss figs and commercial along with stretch and everything else true to 1978, what a show of memories. And all that cool music that I acually listened to when I was in late grade school/jr high. A little earlier than 1983 of course but definitely one to check out!
I was 12. Remember my mom taking me and my best friend at the time to see ROTJ at the same theater I saw Star Wars & ESB (and the same theater I would see the prequels at before it closed). Action figure wise I found most of the ROTJ figure selection to be lacking and slowly moved on GI Joe.
I remember going to Golden Ring Mall (R.I.P.) with my family to see ROTJ that summer. I saw so many movies from 79-86 there. Yea I still collected the Star Wars figures just as much as GIJOE then began towards GIJOE.
I've never heard someone say that was their favorite film, but I can understand that. I like it, too, and wish they'd released a soundtrack. Cheap Trick's "Born to Raise Hell" is especially awesome. This might seem like a stupid question, but did you ever get the Marvel Super special # 25 adaption? Rock & Rule and Fire and Ice (which also came out in '83) are two of the best pieces of animation no one has heard of.
>I've never heard someone say that was their favorite film, but I can understand that.
I have a bunch of friends who've seen it so often we can all quote it, line for line.

There was a website that had mp3s. Funny thing; they were CLEAN, studio versions. I have no idea how they got them. Some of the songs, like the Cheap Trick ones were released on other albums by the singers. There was SUPPOSED to be a soundtrack, and an art book but they weren't released. (They were supposed to coincide with the DVD.)

That was the first I'd heard of the film. I saw it a few weeks later on tv. What I saw was the original version, which is a bit different from the US one, which is the one they used for the comic.
