Critics take this stuff way too seriously. From everything I've read, the film is an over the top cliffhanger serial just like the original Lone Ranger serials, which were far from great films, but were damn entertaining nonetheless.
As long as this version entertains, that's all it needs to do.

well said. Expectations may be a bit too high. I am pretty sure this film will deliver the medium expectations i have . Still wanna see this

Ever since I saw the first trailer I have been looking forward to its release on DVD, so I can drink with my friends and laugh at how insane it is.

I can't say I'm surprised that so far everything I've heard about The Lone Ranger is that it's really really bad. It's never good for a movie to be compared as being on the same level with Wild, Wild West.

"The Lone Ranger," can only be filed alongside "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Wild, Wild West" as ornate films that are so nervous about the modern appeal of the Western that they ruin it by impulsively overstuffing it.

Ouch.

I've been off the "Johnny Depp is awesome in anything" sentiment since his last what, four big time movies have been just terrible (Dark Shadows, Alice, Pirates 4, Willy Wonka....) and his lesser work in that time has been just as bad (Rum Diary, Tourist, Libertine, Secret Window...) It's been 10 years since the first Pirates movie and outside of that, his last good movie was Rango, which was animated, and kind of a kids version of Fear & Loathing so I don't see why Lone Ranger would be any different than the rest of the stuff he's put out in the last 13+ years.

I'm still gonna see it though...
