Am I crazy for having bought a Betamax machine??

Got one off of ebay a few weeks ago. It came with a stereo processor that hooked up to the back of the Beta machine. Sony Betamax machine. I basically bought the machine because I am noticing a lot of movies and specials that were never released on DVD. I also have a few Beta tapes I bought years ago that I want to transfer. I have a sealed Let It Be and a sealed Dr. Strange Beta tape that I am definitely going to transfer to DVD. They always said that Beta was a few grades better than VHS and almost on par with Laser. Anyone think I am crazy for buying the machine?

A good way to get harder to find movies. You know a regular VCR wouldnt be a bad thing to have as well, if you dont have one already. I'm beginning to think I should get a few of them while they are still around.

Nope, I would buy one if I got a good deal on a nice one like that. Hell, I still have three obsolete format machines hooked up to our main TV (laserdisc, VHS and HD-DVD).

No crazier than owning 2 turntable stereos and 3 VCRs. (like me.)

Yep, I have my turntable that hooks up to the computer and 2 linear drive turntables as well as a Laserdisc Player, regular vcr, PAL/Secam/NTSC VCR, and I even have a Selectavision/videodisc player which isn't working right now. The PAL/Secam/NTSC VCR has already paid for itself with a few UK VHS' that were never released here in the US. It'd good to see that I'm not the only one

No, a heck of a lot of stuff is only available that way. P.S. maybe we can trade (DVD)

You're not crazy. I have two (Toshiba & Crown). And even if the difference with VHS isn't really noticeable. I have mine because I like the old tapes with home-made TV recordings that can be found at the fleamarket. And not only for the old shows but also, the old commercials are awesome. I basically like to reminisce. Plus, it's both, cheap AND fun.

I have a VHS VCR from the 1990's which I got from my aunt. It's sitting in the closet. Should hook it up. It's mono, though. Still have quite a few VHS tapes of stuff that I've recorded from the mid 80's up until three years ago. Think I still have a recording of Johnny Carson's final Tonight Show from the original broadcast. Had a VHS recording of Battlestar Galactica's ABC Sunday Night Movie premiere with original commercials. It was missing the ABC News Special Report, though.

I also still have a VCR, an 8 track player, and a turntable. You never know what format some awesome garage sale/thrift store find will be. I recently picked up a couple disco Christmas records; cannot wait to get those unto my computer and iPod. A Betamax player is something I would definitely buy if I saw one.

Nothing wrong with a little classic analogue action.

Not crazy at all. I have been trying to find a good deal on one for sometime and have missed out. I enjoy the old electronics and still collect the movies. I was finally able to get a LD player last month.

Look at this photo and tell me what you seen amongst the selection of modern hi tech gear. If you look at the unit on the bottom right and zoom in on the label, what do you see - BETAMAX!!! I love my Sony SLHF-900. I have a lot of stuff on Beta that I still keep. BETA rules!!
