      Red River
      Searchers
      The Plainsman
Jesse James (with Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda)
      Man who Shot Liberty Valance
      Long Riders
      unforgiven
      Dodge City
      Lonesome Dove
      Ride the High Country
Once Upon a Time in the West
      The Cowboys
      The Shootist

      And so many others

I like both Costner and Russell's Earp films. Costner's is more accurate and serious film, but Tombstone is just fun and cool.

        Exactly.

I don't say Tombstone is overrated because it's a bad movie, it is an entertaining and fun flick, but I call it overrated because is just not as accurate and as serious as Costner's brooding version, Wyatt Earp is an epic type of a Western drama, while Tombstone is more like a popcorn Summer flick.

        That's all I'm saying, wink.

Everybody knows James Garner was the better Wyatt Earp anyways.

Tombstone is like a junkfood western. It's full of plot holes, inaccuracies, and hammy overacting. But dagnabbit, I love it. One of my favorite Earp line is "You die first get it. Your friends might get me in a rush but not before I make your head into a canoe."

I haven't seen Costner's Wyatt Earp in years. It's probably more historically accurate, and overall better acted, but as I recall it was pretty boring, and really long.

When Costner is ON he's a great actor. But he phones stuff in sometimes. See "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".

                My 2 favorites:

                Rio Lobo-John Wayne
                Little Big Man-Dustin Hoffman

I loved Dances with Wolves and thought Costner was great in it. Then again I liked both The Postman and Waterworld so......I guess I'm easily entertained : )

This is a custom figure I put together a number of years ago. It is supposed to resemble John Wayne as Col. Cord McNally from Rio Lobo.

My favorite TV Western by far is the first Lonesome Dove, a true classic.

unforgiven and Rio bravo. the last 15min of unforgiven is some of the greatest film i've ever seen. More of a modern day western but a western nonetheless and i dont think i saw anybody mention Tombstone but besides Val Kilmer that is an "mtv western" pure fluff.

Not a huge western fan...but if I had to pick the 2 I would pick would be "Long Riders" and "Tom Horn". IMHO two classic western films.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                          The beauty that surrounds them
                          Isn't it a pity".
