Wow! there is just so many to name!

But my fav of all time has to be Tombstone - I love that movie!
I know it is not as old as the classics - but I just thought it was an awesome movie

Don't know if I can pick a favorite, but a list, as it comes to mind:

      The Magnificent Seven
      Shane
      True Grit
      Tombstone
      Big Jake
      The Searchers
      Pale Rider

And I'll go off the board with . . . Blazing Saddles

Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite films of all time

Another comedy western I really like is "Support Your Local Sheriff".

Great selections on here from all!

I gotta go with "Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and "Unforgiven."

But a must-mention for those old Roy Rogers shorts. They used to rerun them on my local station back in the 70s, early 80s. Those simple, sentimental, action oriented stories served as a prime Western taster for many a young mind. Plus, all those flashy duds Roy wore! So great.

A few years ago, when the Encore Western channel was running the old Gene Autry show, my daughter (8-ish at the time) was absolutley hooked and watched it every day. There's a real draw and simple power to those old shows and their stories, for sure, that I think kids don't get in the PC, focus-grouped kids shows that populate Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel today.

And if we're going TV here (and yes, I know there were movies, but I always think TV or radio for him), then I also need to include The Lone Ranger, one of the shows that defined my preschool childhood (plus, talk about neither PC nor focus-grouped!).

Big fan of The Lone Ranger here, and the two color films based on the TV series are actually quite good on their own merits. Plus, you get Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels in COLOR. Awesome.

I love westerns. Probably my favorite genre.

                      Top 5:
                      1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
                      2. High Noon
                      3. Ride the High Country
                      4. The Searchers
                      5. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

I personally think Tombstone is overrated, I much orefer Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp.

If Costner could act, I would agree. LOL. Honestly though, it was a good movie, but Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holiday in Tombstone was hands down awesome.

I don't know why Kevin Costner gets so much hate sometimes, him and Clint Eastwood have been in the best modern day Western films, just check out Costner's Westerns...

Heck, even The Postman was not bad, lol.

                                Kevin Costner rules.
