    Distinct Classic Toy Smells

Was just thinking about a few old toy smells I miss

    1. Slime .... Hated the smell -- but I miss it

    2. The smell after putting 3in1 oil in an electric train engine to make smoke

    3. The distinct smell of Lincoln Logs fresh after opening

    4. The weird rubber smell of Jigglers that almost can make you vomit

    5. testors plastic model cement

can anyone add to the list ?

Yeah..Kenner Star Wars figures when they were new out of the package had a very distinct plastic smell. Every once in a while I catch it off of a modern action figure but it's only a hint of what was. Also the Imperial Commander smelled like citranella for some reason.

Let's not forget the most famous action figure smell ever.....Stinkor from the Masters of The Universe line which actually had patchouli oil mixed with the plastic so he would smell like a skunk (or possibly your parents if they were hippies.) Depending on how and where you stored him, this figure may never have lost his sent either. They also did the same for Mossman who was scented to smell like pine.

Silly Putty also had a smell to it and so did playdough.

    Board games too.

I wuld not call them vintage, but Sideshow and Hot Toys collectors could probably recognize the scent of a new 12" from a block away.

Kenner Strawberry Shortcake dolls. They all had such a wonderful fruit scent.

My Stinkor still smells as bad as the day I got him but my Strawberry doll's scent has all but faded. Kinda sad.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Vinyl playset smell. Like Barbie Country Camper and GI Joe HQ. Stronger than that is beach toys smell like beach balls and floaties. New doll smell. New crayons. I associate Easy Bake Oven w/ burnt chocolate smell. Once when I was putting a chocolate cake in my Easy Bake Oven, the pan slipped and the cake mix spilled all over the light bulb. We had to let it cool and chip it off. Some of it got down a little further, b/c after that every time I turned that oven on, it smelled like burnet chocolate.

Stinkor and Moss Man from Masters of the universe.

Also, my brother had a Jabba the Hutt eraser whose smell was so distinct that I remember it almost 30 years later. It had a scent similar to (but wholly unique) stale Fruity Pebbles.

Also, Fantastic Four bubble gum. I will never forget the way it smelled. Big League Chew is the closest, but the smell is unique.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

                Hmmmm....

My place still smells like Testors. I build model kits OBSESSIVELY.

The most distinct smell I remember was from a bendy green robot guy; round head, outstretched "hug me" arms, looked like he was wearing shades.... That thing had the strongest and worst chemical smell ever.

These were the exact 3 I would have mentioned.

Elastic Mego Hulk with its combination of syrup and plastic. Still miss it.

I remember opening Stinkor and smelling him for the first time. He was P.u.-rrific!

I still buy various sludge/slime like goo. I havent found anything with the same smell yet.

Topps cards were great with the card smell/gum combination. I guess comics could be added as well. The ones today just dont have that same smell.

                          YUP!

Kenner Star Wars was the first thing I thought of. I recently got a pair of flip-flops from Walmart that had the exact smell! It stunk up my closet a bit so that every time I opened it I had clear memories of opening new toys. Kinda trippy!

Those vinyl capes on the Star Wars figures were especially fragrant.

I loved vinyl toys, especially the ones for the pool.
