    Dr. Bellows was a jerk!

    Hi all,

I'm sitting here watching "I Dream Of Jeannie". Did any of you ever notice that Dr. Bellows would just go waltzing into Major Nelson's house whenever her wanted? Didn't ring the bell, or knock, didn't wait to be invited, just barged right in. And Tony never objected. If it were me, I'd be like, "I know you outrank me, but this is my house and I do have a life outside the space program. The next time you barge into my house, I'm gonna throw you out on your ear!"

I know, silly rant. Funny how you never notice this stuff as a kid, but when you get to be a cynical adult!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Funny! Actually the thing that never bothered me as a kid and always does now is that no matter what show or where the story takes place the front door is always unlocked. Especially sitcoms that take place in New York, I'm like...riiiggghhhtt.
    It's all good!

How about this one.. Your older housekeeper lives in your home, does all the cooking, cleaning, and laundry, not to mention a fair share of raising the kids, and yet she still has to call you Mr and Mrs Brady! Ridiculous!

Over the course of the show he became a little crazy trying to prove Major Nelson was crazy.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, and what did Carol Brady do, anyway? She had no job, all the kids were at school all day, yet they had Alice. Carol was a Golddigger!!!

As for Dr. Bellows, I kind of felt the same way. Way too intrusive. But this was before the "don't ask, don't tell" policy the military has since adopted.

I thought Carol wrote magazine articles, or am I imagining that?

I never liked Dr. Bellows, he was way too pushy and demanding of Tony. Not when it came to his duty, but in his off time.

For some weird reason, his wife Amanda fell in love with Jeannie's bottle and demanded that Tony give it to her to go with her decorating job. WTH??? Who is SHE to demand his property so that it can match HER decor? Her husband was only a Colonel, not the President of the United States!

And of course, Dr. Bellows forces Tony to give it to her, necessitating a comedy situation so that he can get the bottle back before she discovers Jeannie in it. I think they managed to switch the bottle with a fake at the end, so Jeannie's secret was safe.

And since we're talking about Jeannie's secret; if Dr. Bellows had been told about her, he'd have been the first one to turn her in and demand that she be examined by the Air Force. As a genie, she had no real rights according to human law, and there were no records of her life either in the U.S. or where she was born, so she literally would have been a non-person.

And then Tony would have gotten in trouble for sheltering her, lost his rank, and probably ended up either court martialed or exiled to Antarctica.

Even if Carol didn't work that wouldn't maker her a gold-digger

Alice was with the men long before they got together

Mike liked Alice so he kept her on no matter what

As far as Carol not working --- why not ? ..... Mike made a decent amount of money and apparently don't care what she does.

Robot Chicken had a skit of what Carol Brady's job was.

                          Exactly.

And that mutual respect would render things like calling Mike "Mr. Brady" no matter what.

I still call my first grade teacher "Mrs."... and it ain't because she forces me to.

You'd think for a nostalgic board like this, that'd be a given rationale.

Most of the shows from this era have ridiculous plots that make no sense in the real world. People often act in ways that defy explanation. They do the opposite of what real people would do or should do. Why didn't the Robinson Family just kill Dr. Smith, or maroon him, for sabotaging the mission and putting their lives in danger? Why can't they make a raft and get rescued from Gilligan's Island? Because the show would be over.

Being the doctor who could ground Major Nelson or Major Healy, Dr. Bellows should have a lot of access to these guys but not in their personal lives. They were 2 astronauts who rarely did anything relating to the space program even tho it was at the height of the `60's Moon Race. I think more astronauts appeared on Gilligan's Island than I Dream of Jeannie.
