I'm not much for weapons, and I do work at a "Peace Academy", but I really got steamed when my school adopted a "no Superheroes" rule, and I can't even wear any of my Superhero shirts or my Spider-Man shoes to work anymore. They can't even dress like Superheroes for Halloween! Now that's just the limit!!

At some point in history, we gave up rational thought for zero tolerance policies in a lot of areas of life, not just schools. This is another reason why zero tolerance doesn't work.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

No way man. I'd send my kid to school dressed like Superman with a letter asking if the school is opposed to truth, justice, and the American way, what exactly DO they stand for?

Problem is Batman and almost every Marvel out there

I'm sure everybody is fine with Superman -- BUT, they can't pick and choose

If the guy with the knife fingers get's booted so does the Man of Steel etc

I work in a pre-school. No pencils or binders needed.

Well, when the kids come in Superhero costumes, not too much is said, (although they send notices home to discourage it). But the TEACHERS have to set the example and not wear superheroes. Well, Evel Knievel still has a cape, and I used that costume again last year...HAHA! I told my boss that if they adopt a no Star Trek rule, I QUIT!

Oh it gets better... the talk now is to have every student fingerprinted. No really. I'm telling you friends this country is taking some seriously wrong turns.

I never understood school suspensions for non-violent offences. I remember getting caught skipping an entire week of school (10th grade), my punishment? I was suspended for 3 days.

You skipped a whole week? If I had tried that my school would have ratted me out to my mom, and id no longer be among the living.

that action could be analgous to. A suspension to enforce a "no weapons" type rule seems harsh but appropriate in a lot of these cases.

I'm not justifying or encouraging this by any means, but it seems inevitable, if only because technology is going to make it too easy to implement for orginizations to resist the idea if they can get away with it.

On one hand, its breaking down all our personal rights as law-abiding citizens... on the other hand it'll become so easy, normal and commonplace that one will eventually forget there was a time when fingerprinting was an arduous process that took place during late-night hours in junky police stations with gobs of ink everywhere.

Considering how this situation is simply not going to come to an end with the schools and law enforcement exhausting every option they have available to them, I can't say I blame them. Something has to be done. It's been estimated that each of these threats has a price tag of $15,000 to school and city resources. The parents can and will be held accountable for these costs and also subject to felony charges for their children's actions. Totally nuts. Not the punishment, just the situation.

Just yesterday a lady pointed out another aspect I hadn't thought about when it comes to all of these evacuations and lock downs... She has a handicapped some that use special crutches to get around so needless to say the mass exodus of students is less than safe for this kid.

                            Seriously, what do we do?
