I feel sorry for today's kids...

I just read an unbelievable news story about a second grader suspended for playing soldier and throwing an IMAGINARY grenade into a sandbox.
Let's be clear on this...the kid didn't actually throw anything. His hand was empty. He was suspended over an imaginary "weapon".

*** is wrong with people today?
Now kids can't even pretend to be G.I Joe, Cops, Superheroes, Spacemen, Cowboys, Ninjas, or anything else that's considered dangerous, violent, aggressive, or non-conformist?

Pretty soon all they'll be able to play is "therapist" , that is until they start suspending kids for writing imaginary prescriptions.

it's a crazy world we live in. Kids get in trouble if they even bring in an action figure gun.

I personally, as a parent, would fight that suspension. that's, as usual, taking things too far

I know...have these idiotic adults forgotten what it is to be a kid?
The school's policy forbids any fighting or weapons, real or imaginary, during play.
Soooo...a kid could be suspended for slaying an imaginary dragon with an imaginary sword.
I'd have been suspended for aiming my imaginary webshooters at people...I used to play Spider-Man all the time. And forget about pretending to be the Hulk! You're headed for child restraints and some heavy sedation!

Its a shame kids can't be kids any more, this ones suspended for pretending another for talking about a gun that blows bubbles and I'm sure they can't play kickball anymore either. I'm glad I grew up in the 70s/early 80s.

            Hmmmm....

I dunno; school was like this when I went, back in the 70's. (That was when they first put metal detectors in the US schools 'cos folks were afraid of gangs.) I think it's another one of them things that comes around every 10 - 15 years. I can remember schools freaking out about weaponized and aggressive play in the 90's when the Power Rangers were popular. (Including a "new" phenomenon called "play fighting." *gasp*) I guess we had Ridalin in the 80's, hence no big scare. (Although we DID have.... ironically enough, "just say NO.")

Interesting note for you on this same line of thought; Over the past few months, the local Junior High and High School have had an insane number of bomb threats. As of yesterday it was a total of 9 since November I believe... the first kicker to it is that the threats aren't called in. Instead someone (student, teacher etc...) is finding a written note say that there is a bomb and it will blow up at XX:XX time. Classes are cleared, school is locked down, police and fire have to search the building each time to be sure. A few arrests have been made and a couple students expelled, but still the threats continue.

The last one occurred / was discovered Thursday evening at the High School during parent teacher conferences. So the school decides that before the day begins they will lock down the school, have all of the students stay in the gym and each one must have their bags and such searched (for what a pen and paper? damn)... moving on...

One of the students who runs camera for me for sporting events tells me last night, that two interesting things took place that I didn't really think about. The first, as soon as word got out about the lock down before the first bell even rang, most kids just said to hell with it and went to McDonald's to wait for the all clear or not even bother going back. The second thing which I find truly disturbing is that my inside man said that a lot of students freaked out because they had to make the PRESCRIPTION drugs that they weren't prescribed, disappear before the search. He was saying there were pill bottles literally all over the place; bathrooms, hallway, parking lot. Not a mountain or anything but a noticeable amount rolling around campus.

I won't go into a rant on this but IMO that is the root of a lot of the problems. Today's kids have access to better narcotics than we ever could have dreamed of. And while all drugs are a bad habit / addiction waiting to happen, these meds are doing some serious damage to these kids heads and honestly I can't understand how these brain altering medications are allowed on the market so easily while marijuana is illegal. Yeah, yeah, yeah 'drugs are bad m,kay'... but seriously the legal stuff has out paced the illegal in its potential damage. That isn't paranoia... it's fact.

I fear for this generations future. I sincerely do.

They said on O'Reilly last night the kid actually threw a rock but his parents lied and said he didn't throw anything to get sympathy.

That's interesting if true, but I have a hard time believing anything that comes out of that guy's mouth. Even so, if the kid didn't throw it at somebody what's the big deal? Are snowball fights illegal now too? What about skipping stones?

I wonder if they address the Fourth Amendment in Civics class at that school or skip it altogether to avoid seeming hypocritical and having their moral authority undermined?

I've read from a few sources that this kid has disciplinary problems. Probably the whole story isnt being told.

That might be. Yesterday, I got home and saw there was a news story about six adults busting into a school and beating up teachers, and now it's been changed to four adults and two teens attacking some students and a couple teachers getting hurt trying to break it up.
