I think Harvey Korman is one of the funniest people who ever lived.
Yes. Even withou Carol Burnett, there's Blazing Saddles...
edited to add -- we watched the Johnny Cash show too
Too young to have seen Johnny's show, although I would have loved it. I have the lone DVD they released. Fantastic stuff.
Hee-Haw?
I guess Hee-Haw would be a variety show. I tend to think of it just as a country music show. In that case, it wins. That was must-watch TV for a good chunk of my childhood. Every Saturday night. One of the few programs my Dad would stop to watch without fail.
Hee Haw was king around our house. The Rodney Dangerfield specials also took top spots. And of course Dean Martin. To this day no other past entertainer mesmerizes me more than Dean. All around entertainer. And with that said, there is a prime reason as to why the variety show doesn't have a shot ( one of many really) but there aren't that many well rounded entertainers. Most of the folks we've put in the spotlight these days are one trick ponies. Not knocking them when I say that, but it is what it is.
My sister and I had various different tastes in TV programming (we still do), but one show we both religiously watched together back in the day was The Donny and Marie Show, she was definitely a little bit country, and I was a little bit rock n' roll, lol.
