    Argo

Saw that this won a couple of golden globes, so watched it yesterday. What a cracking film, didnt know anything about the story line. Really well written and directed, based on a true story, serious topic, but with a lot of humour and tension, one of the better films Ive seen recently, tying in with Flight with Denzel Wasington. Checkout the ending scenes, I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of 70s toys

I enjoyed Argo a lot more than I expected. I was young during the hostage crisis and I didn't know anything about these 6 hostages. Entertaining and learned something.

Saw it today. Was blown away. Great layering of storylines. A great surprise early on, and yes, the final scene is delicious for the folks on this board!

Argo was awesome. I think we are going to see Django this week some time.

I just saw it last night. I thought it was decent. A bit cartoonish at times.

Reading about the real incident afterwards a few things really bothered me. I don't mind that the filmmakers heightened CIA agent Tony Mendez' role - a Hollywood move needs a hero - but the fact that the filmmakers went out of their way to minimize the efforts of other real-life heroes bothered me quite a bit.

For example, in the movie it's said that the British and New Zealand embassies turned the '6' away out of fear - when in reality people in both of those embassies played key roles in saving the Americans at great personal risk. I understand simplifying the events to make the story easier to tell, but I don't understand the reason for the insult.

The involvement of the Canadian government is extremely minimized - which again, I understand because the filmmakers chose to make this movie about an American hero - but a point the movie pushes is that the Canadians took credit for the CIA's work - which is not what actually happened. The movie was heavily criticized when it played at the Toronto Film Festival and Affleck changed the text at the end of the movie to try and rectify it a bit. Still, it's a bit distasteful to me that filmmakers think they need to insult non-American heroes just to make their story more exciting for Americans.

I did like the toys at the end, and in reality the storyboards for the fake movie Argo were created by Jack Kirby!

I just got through watching Argo and Zero Dark Thirty...and I have to say that I preferred Zero Dark Thirty over Argo.

Zero Dark Thirty is as realistic and gritty as they come...Argo is typical Hollywood fair...don't get me wrong, Argo was good...but Dark Zero Thirty was great.

Having said that, Argo has humor, Dark Zero Thirty does not, so I could see why people would prefer Argo, it's a more "fun" flick.

                              Well said. I agree completely.

But sadly, historical accuracy is usually the first thing to be sacrificed upon Hollywood's blood-stained box office altar whenever a supposedly "historical" picture is produced.
