Saw it in the early 2000's, when I was on a Takeshi Kitano kick. The lighthouse sequence was great/messed up.

Great film. Weird, vicious.... like it SHOULD be. My probelm with stuff like "Hunger Games" is that it's almost always WAY too sanitized for the material. Settings like this SHOULD be horrific, but they're not 'cos it might make someone in the audience feel bad for a second.:

I'll have to watch that. I watched "From Paris With Love" last night on cable and I thought It was great, over the top, but Travolta plays a great crazy dude. I saw this on DVD when it came out and pretty forgettable, but while I was watching, I couldn't stop.
