And before that they were Fays Drugs and Carl's Drugs before that. At least they were in NY.

I'll add Gino's to the list, though it might be a Philly/Balt regional thing. I see that someone brought one back in King of Prussia, but I haven't been there yet. Also, there are a few Roy Rogers on the PA turnpike, so anyone driving out to the Meet from the east coast has an option.

Yeah I grew up in a small Pennsylvania town and I still live here. I remember going shopping at Christmas time and there were great toys in all of those stores. We had:
              McCrory's
Newberry"s (I got my Talking GI Joe Astronaut here!)
Joe The Motorists Friend (Joe the Motors)
Uptown Sales (Best Toy Store Ever!)
              Sears

and if we could get get Dad to drive us out to the east side of town:
              Town & Country
              Nichol's
              Grant's

All these are long gone. I still have Mom's Red Barn coffee cup:

We had a JJ Newberrys here in Oakland. I miss that place too. It was kinda like Woolworths. It even had a lunch counter.

The first Newberry's ever was in the town next to mine a few miles away.

It's a hotel now but it says on the building --- SITE OF THE FIRST J.J. NEWBERRY'S

Oh wow I remember Servive Merchandise, you went in and wrote down what you wanted on a order form and picked it up at the back of the store. Always had great stuff. The close to us only lasted a year or 2.
We still have Ryans here in Ohio.

Service Merchandise had an exclusive 12" Star Wars figure (newer series)

Think it was Leia in Hoth or Edor suit

Those plastic baggies I think are what made those Burger Chef burgers so good.Kept them moist and warm.

Some of these might still be around but they closed up where I grew up and don't exist where I live now.

Holy cow this is a great thread! I miss the Kmart cafeteria. we had a great one here in Florence, Al. when I was a kid. Then you could buy a cheeseburger and a Mego all in one location!!!!!! Oh the memories. Also, TG&Y and Woolsworth. I remember my mom dragging me around those old stores when I was a kid, it was great.

I can't believe I forgot Newberry's. The one in Cooperstown was cool. Right next door to the HOF. Use to have two floors. They've since turned it into a smaller store and covered up the lower level. I felt weird walking over it back in 2010,thinking I might fall through it.
