Torn Meniscus In My Left Knee

After months of on and off knee pain, I finally went to the doctor. 1 xray and 1 MRI later it was determaned I had a torn meniscus in my left knee. Kind of makes dragging a replacement window up a ladder with 20lb tool belt on a tad bit harder. Anyway, I will tough it out till Jan 9th and then have surgery to repair the damage, I should be good as new in 4-6 weeks. Just trying to set myself up now for a month without pay. Being self employed there is no disabilty or workmans comp pay. Thank god we have health coverage! I am looking forward to being the old guy walking with a stick so I can point at people far away and hit the ones that are closer for a week or two.

2 Alieve and 6 Advil. I actually have taken 2 Alieve, 1 in am and 1 in pm, for a long time now. I was actually training legs until about 3 weeks ago too. The pain just got too bad to continue. Right now I ware a knee brace to work and need to lead with one leg when I go down stairs, but the pain is really minimal unless i do something stupid.

All the best to you on this surgery. Amazing that you've been able to work through it.
            It's all good!

John, I think I've been suffering with the same thing for a few months now. It's not always, but I've had pain and stiffness in my right knee that comes and goes. I'm planning on getting this checked out, but I cannot, under any circumstance, afford to be off work. I'll just have to tough it out and wear a brace and see where this goes. It's funny, my left knee I've dislocated probably twenty times in my teens and early adulthood but it's my right that giving me problems. Old sucks.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I assume arthriscopic? Unless itself bad (torn though the middle) you should be up and around quicker than you think. Especially since you keep your self in shape, best of luck and prayers your way sir

The Dr would not tell me how bad it was, only that is was lateral not throught he middle. At this moment, it feels pretty good, though it is tough to climb a ladder or go up and down stairs. When it flairs up and I twist wrong, I can hardly even walk on it.

Wow, John. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hadn't read this thread when I spoke to you this morning or I wouldn't have complained about my Christmas lights and ladder escapades from earlier in the week.

Take care of yourself and good luck with the arthroscopy.

Hang tough, man--that's a painful thing to endure. If it gets too bad, ask your doctor about meloxicam. It changed my life. When I was having that problem, I couldn't do stairs and would have to pick up my leg to put it into the bath tub, because I couldn't bend it. The meloxicam made it tolerable while it healed. One thing that also helped me that's going to sound crazy: slip-resistant shoes. I kept re-injuring myself by twisting my knee at work (I work w/ fish and am always standing in water and ice) and not realizing it. Best of luck, and I hope you get through this quickly and easily!

You're tough so you'll definitely come out great. I had meniscus/ACL surgery on my right knee over 10 years ago. It's now stronger than my left. I've never had a problem with it since.
