It sounds to me like there was a mix-up, and now there is a cover-up. I'm sure whoever did it is hoping you'll just go away, but I wouldn't let them slide that easy. It's unlikely you'll ever get your stuff back, but you should get some compensation for your loses at the very least.

^^^ I agree. The very fact the maintenance people had a ready-made reason on the theft side and refused to help when she was trying to get the lock corrected reeks of suspicion. So very sorry for your loss.

Definitely a "mistake" made by the people renting it out.
Maybe they "accidentally" had your box opened, sombody took your stuff, and now they find out that they made a mistake and refuse to take responsibility...

Oh, man... that's HORRIBLE!!!! Wish that will NEVER Happen to you and your mother in the future......

I've been robbed 2 times while I'm gone. In 1995, somebody broke in my APT and stolen all of brand new large TV, VCR and other expensive dishes... ALL GONE!!! I reported to the local Police Station, they arrived and couldn't finding the Suspect's finger prints, no luck to catch the Suspects.......... Also last 3 months ago, somebody broke my glass door and stolen my brand new Alertmaster AM - 6000 system (have old one plugged back.....) is for the Deaf and old people while I'm in the Master Bedroom to replaced old ones and went to the living room (that I put new box on the couch near by the Coffee Table), it's GONE!!!! and I noticed the door handle have been damaged, I'm at home while the Suspect came into my Mobile Home!!!!! I loaded 6 shot gun shells and the safely is off. I put the Pump Shotgun on the side of my Bed, I hardly sleep all night with one eye open pass 3 months.....

I'll get double dead locks on all of the doors and bedroom doors soon!!

It's nothing to joke about, but I would say keep an eye on Storage Wars or Auction Hunters...but those shows are totally fake, so you won't see your stuff there.

I'd dog those guys. They had to clean out the wrong unit, and are now in a permanent state of denial...

Sorry for you and your Mom's losses. It does seem real strange that the maintenance people told you to call a locksmith.Aren't they the ones that are supposed to help in a situation like that?If the locksmith confirmed that the lock had been changed and your key would not work because of that,then that sure points toward,like others have said, a mistake made by someone and now they are playing dumb to avoid having to pay for that mistake.
