Fortunately, it's not health related. Which is the ONLY good thing about this entire situation.
A couple of weeks ago, the weekend before Halloween, I went to our storage closet, which is in our building to put some books into the storage bin I have in there.
The key woudn't work, no matter how hard I jiggled the lock.
Then, Hurricane Sandy happened, and it was a while before I could inform our Maintenance Dept. They denied doing anything to the lock, and advised me to get a locksmith to pop and replace the lock. Which I did.
When I opened the door, EVERYTHING WAS GONE. Disappeared; vanished; gone with the wind; poof!
The first thing I said was "Holy Jesus, we've been robbed!"
The locksmith told me that thieves do NOT replace locks that they have popped; which makes sense. I informed my maintenance board, and filed a report with our local police.
In the past two weeks, they have done an investigation, and can find NO paperwork indicating that the closet was emptied by accident, or that the lock was replaced for whatever reason.
This smells of an inside job to me. Like the locksmith said, thieves do NOT replace locks.
A lot of mementos were in there; all of the blankets that my mom and I crocheted; my vintage sewing and crafting books from the 1970's; my custom supplies, comic books, my sewing machine, DVD's, video tapes, pattern making supplies. My AA Dinahmite that I managed to get cheap on Ebay (NRFB). My original Buck Rogers and Tigerman figures from Craig (THAT hurt like heck; I recently replaced them via Ebay, but it cost me about ten dollars more than I originally paid.) My Amok Time Battlestar Galactica Starbuck and Apollo figures. My Enterbay Bruce Lee as Kato (on ebay it is now more than 300 bucks!)
My vintage sewing patterns and Raggedy Ann dolls. Pictures of the family from the Forties, Fifties and Sixties!
My mom went to the Social Services division that is in our neighborhood and she was advised to have me call someone on the Board of Directors for Co-op City here in the Bronx.
I intend to do that tomorrow, at least to inform him of what has happened. But with Thanksgiving coming up, there's not a lot he's going to be able to do right away.
I am SO cheesed off about this!!!!
My mom is 81 years old, and she doesn't need this kind of malarkey at this stage of life. She should be sitting pretty, enjoying her retirement, complaining about her issues, etc. Instead? She had THIS to deal with.
I really, REALLY was hoping that this would be resolved quickly; and that I wouldn't have to vent about it here.
Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way.
If I ever find out who did this, I am going to sue them unto the ninth generation for all of the grief that they have put my mother through!!!!
The stuff, while I'm ticked that it was taken, can eventually be replaced. We can get copies of the photos from other members of the family; new blankets can be crocheted, and even the figures can be replaced. The comic books are probably at the bottom of a landfill, and the craft books were more than likely dumped as well.
I hope that the person who did this has his/her hands rot off! Painfully so; over a period of ten years; all the way up to their elbows!!!!
I also hope that what goes around, comes around and THEY get robbed of family mementos and memories.
Pendejo jerk----!!!!
