Smith's #3 rating is due to his little pitty-patty short passes...the man is not a deep threat passer.

Smith didn’t throw many deep passes in 2011 – he averaged 2.8 throws of 20 or more yards per game.

Kaepernick has a stronger arm...and is a better running threat as well...the kid just needs experience...but even though Smith will probably be the starting QB when he's healthy...I predict Kaepernick will be the man within two seasons.
