Yes it does. My collection has been very focused for a very long time now. It's definately the way to go.

Coming up with a good strategy for displaying items becomes more and more important as a collection increases. I think this would be a good chance for him to look into how he can save space with shelving.

Seeing how people display their collections is one of my favorite feature. Its to bad I havent collected enough to have to worry about space concerns

As a former toy hoarder; It's nice to have less.
For the last five years, I've donated, sold and given away everything I can part with. It started by limiting my buying. Taking a huge paycut in a new job, made this the easiest step. Next step was to go through my storage over and over again, looking for stuff to get rid of.
I didn't start with baby steps. I started with donations and 'give aways' to family and friends. Then garage sales and toy shows.
Five years later, I'm down to about about ten average size boxes. Still have stuff to get rid of, but I can't believe how good it feels to go to a toy show today.
A focused collector, is a happy collector.
My only concern is that the custom mego hobbies, have just begun, to take control!

I use to squirrel away bins and bins of toys...to the point where i had a stores inventory worth but no store and then one day i realized i was sick of the bulk, sick of the lack of space, lack of room, maintenance etc....my house used to look like i lived in a warehouse of stock instead of a home.....now? those days are over...being focused on only one toy line has been alot more fun, alot more clean and i would never want to go back to the old toy hoarder ways!!!

I have to realize as much as I like any line, I do not need everything released from it.

The army building and variants get a little nuts. Like I said, I hoarded Star Wars because loose stuff is a hard sell and I figured I'd create scenes for display with the playsets. I of course can skip this if I only bought/kept boxed stuff!

I should make a list of everything I really want and sell off whatever was never on it...aside from a few cool finds.

I am starting to do this myself slowly. Selling off what I do not need or an incomplete line can be tough but sometimes it needs to be done so we can keep focused on the lines we really want.
