    No More Toy Hoarding

I've been a toy hoarder and I need to stop. Big messy collections and rooms full of stuff you can barely walk in always looked and sounded appealing to me. But the reality isn't so cool.

I have bins of boxes of incomplete stuff. Stuff I never really wanted but kept simply because I found it. Stuff that really doesn't appeal to me much and stuff in condition I really don't like.

Do I really want a Transformers Board Game? Do I really need empty Transformers carrying cases? Or that naked Fembot who's outfit I'll most likely never find? Or a 12" Boba Fett with a loose leg?

I even started to keep any Star Wars COO variants and keep a lot for the purpose of setting up playsets. For some reason, only SW playsets look boring to me loose without a scene going. I have crazy debates with myself like "well, if I get rid of the COO variants, I'll have to get rid of one of those Yoda variants (brown or orange)."

I'm going to thin out my collection and be more picky about what I keep for myself now. Maybe even go through the lines I REALLY like and decide what pieces I really don't care about.

I might even AFA some stuff I have that I like.

Anyone else have or had problems with hoarding toys?

Yes, I did and you have taken a huge first step.

I'm still in the process of parring down my collection to just the stuff I want. But looking back, I am very pleased that my living room is a living room and not a storage area.

I've got too many duplicates of various lines, so I started amassing a list and I'm going to sell them off starting next week on Ebay and possibly here. The work done to remodel my basement has forced me to review what I refill it with. If it's excess, it needs to go. Fortunately there is a market for some of that stuff right now so I'll throw it out there while the timing is good.

I've been trying to purge and trim the fat around here too. I'm taking a lot less stuff in nowadays, having decided I don't have to keep up with all the modern lines, and would rather collect the vintage stuff. Good luck to you in cleaning out. It honestly feels good to get rid of some of the excess baggage. It's like losing weight!

I don't mind the volume, but I am dismayed when it is messy. I have always wanted to have a toy museum, but definitely want it to be displayed properly. My biggest challenge with toy organization at the moment is teaching my kids to respect their stuff and put things away.

I have been the worst toy hoarder possible for the last 15 years. I think when I haven't been happy I collect things for the instant gratification. Over the last 2 years I've purged big time. I'm still working on getting rid of some stuff, but hope to be at a managable level in the next 6 months. You can't collect everything. It has felt great getting things cleared out and I've used the money I made to collect things I really like. It was really hard at first to get rid of things but has gotten easier each time. I encourage to get started. Take baby steps if you have to and you'll be where you want to be before you know it.

I've had to cut down the toy shows to just one a year. I don't wait my toyroom turning into an ep of Hoarders. Now that I've also started collecting some things for 18 inch dolls (I just recently got a boy), I'm gonna have to start selling or giving some of the less important things away.

I've gone through this a few times over the years and am actually doing it again now. JLU, Trek, B:TAS, DC, Marvel, Pez - the list goes on and on. Since I've finally gotten my toy room I've discovered it all will not fit and I cannot display my Mego collection the way I want and the way it deserves. So time to purge. This will also help me to focus on the 8" ReMego lines that are out and the new figures coming. While it's a pain and a lot of this stuff I've had waiting to display I've decided it will be a good thing.

                  Hmmmm....

I got tons of stuff, but it all gets used. (I built the Supercity for use during superhero and cyberpunk RPG sessions.) I lucked out in thet I love playing with them, so I'm not too keen on MIB or pristine sets. That saves a LOT of headache in the long run.

I've been purging a bit, but we're planning on building on to our house this spring, so Cindy can move her Barbie crap out of my toyroom. :-)

I'm still trying to streamline things a bit so I can really give stuff some room to breathe when we finally get some additional space. Finally reorganized my comics and purged a bunch of stuff I have no interest in. It's mostly worthless, so it's off to Half-Price Books.

I would also recommend donating any packaged toys you have that aren't worth much to any toy charity. They are good as new, and the kids will love them. Good feeling to give them good homes too.

i echo the same sentiments. it was hard at first and i felt bad to let some things go, but now it's gotten to be pretty easy to get rid of things i dont need multiples of!!

I have been thinking of clearing some of my collections for the past few weeks,I have bought things cause I thought I would start collecting that certain line or just liked the look of them, now I am starting to think do I really need this and that, plus it would free up alot of space and I can concentrate on my Mego and Re-Mego collection, instead of having a mass array of different stuff.

I think I will start taking baby steps like gaga4toys says,it's really hard to let go of somethings but I must start somewhere,I guess.

My toy display has never been bigger than two cabinets at a time.

I do have a few leftovers in my storage room and basement...not attached to them...too lazy to bring them up and sell them...but now I will...I'll use the extra money for some personal things I have to take care of. I have also donated toys to various charities as well...it makes you feel good as well.

I have thinned out stuff here and there as well. I currently have a few boxes of stuff I really need to sell but I am just too lazy.....just stuff i picked up here and there for the purpose of resellnig or trading
