Winter project - 18,000 piece puzzle

The 2012 Halloween party is long over, and I have already refilled the 5,500 plastic eggs that we use for the Halloween scavenger hunt. So what's a gal who doesn't drive in the snow to do all winter long? This!

It has been ordered, and today I am setting up tables in the basement. I also ordered tally counters so we (me, my mom, my sister, our friends, neighbors, pets, UPS driver,...anyone really) can keep track of how many pieces we put in. Maybe we'll finish it, or maybe we'll just go crazy.

        Wow - have fun!

Also, if you decide to smash it after it's all done - please make a video!

One of the local, independent toy stores that I shop at has a large game room. They already have a couple nine thousand piece puzzles hanging on the walls and have offered to buy this one from me once it's complete. They will carefully move it to their store in sections.

            Amazing!

Seriously, it would be fantastic to see some progress pics! I've never heard of a puzzle this size before and it's mind blowing to think of. It would be really great to see how this goes.

There are a couple 18,000 piece puzzles, one 24,000 piece, and one 32,00 piece puzzle out there. The 32,000 piece one comes strapped to it's own handcart. The one I ordered is 4.5 x 9 feet wide. We are going to work it on a ping pong table top set upon folding tables. Mom and I thought about the 24,000 piece one, but I simply do not have the space to work a 4.5 x 14 foot puzzle.

A couple friends told me to start a Facebook group for our puzzle. If I do that, I will post a link here.

Sadly, they give me one also, but less of a headache than being stuck in the house all winter getting cabin fever.

That sound like fun. I'd love to put together one of the classics and hang it in my den. Last supper, or Sistine chapel would be a good conversation starter for house parties.

I love doing puzzles, we have a space set up just for them, a spinning mat so we don't reach across each other grabbing for a pc, but my goodness girl, you'll go crosseyed looking through all those pcs! Best of luck on it. Try to keep track of your time just for kicks. I'm wondering how long its gonna take.

What if it's one piece short at the end...

I enjoy an occasion puzzle. The biggest maybe 500 pieces but thats a task I dont think I could even handle!

We are 53 hours into the puzzle. After the initial turn over of pieces and first shoebox sorting, we filled seven tables. A second shoebox sorting got us down to four tables of pieces. The border is complete, we have chunks of lizard, lily, crocodile, flamingos, and sky complete. If you want to check it out, go to our Puzz-zilla Facebook group.
