    Atari 2600 Memories?

I have many good memories of playing that system for hours on end. I know it can't compare even close to anything nowdays but it always has a special place for me. Anyone else?
Anyone else still play a working system?
    How about your favorite games?

I was just tellling my son about my 2600 last night, I took a job to pay for the damn thing in 1981, cost me $300. Shortly after George Plimpton's Intellivison ads started playing. I remember wanting to beat him up, I worked hard for my system and he was telling the world it sucked.

Favourite games were Kaboom!, Cosmic Ark, Adventure, Combat, Phoenix, Pitfall, Donkey Kong and Defender. I was also that weirdo who played the E.T. game for days when it came out.

My "Buyer's remorse" game was Fishing Derby. Fun for eight seconds.

            Never had the 2600...
            We had the Mattel Intellivision.
            Loved that machine.
Still pick up cartridges whenever I find them at second hand stores, or on Ebay.

(Later on, I had the ColecoVision, which was also a great system. With the Atari VCS expansion module it gave access to the entire 2600 game library, too.)

Pitfall was fun, and I played Indiana Jones a ton, there were cool stuff you could find if you toggled the power switch off and on our friends found.

Adventure was a neat game too.

Did any of you guys have the Starpath Supercharger? It was a long cartridge that had an audio cable coming out of it for the 2600. All of the games came on audio cassettes and were great! Dragonstomper, Escape from the Mindmaster, Survival Island etc....

LOVED the 2600! Never could afford it back in the early 80's but my cousin and I we got one and a bunch of cartridges about ten years ago.
I defeated the PAC-MAN. Man, that was complex! About two-hours non-stop playing (you know back in the day there wasn't such thing as PAUSE keys!) my hands hurt like hell! Well, I cleaned it, and was ready to play the game again about a week ago but... it did not turn on.

BTW, anybody knows where can I download some of the old games for my laptop?

                  My buddy had one.

We always used to play some game where you'd find things (swords, medicine, etc) pick them up and trade them for other things ... I forgot the name.... was that Dragonstomper ?

I had Coleco's version of the 2600. The Gemini,I believe it was called. Had the joystick on top and the paddle on the bottom of the controller.

Never had one, but one of my best friends did, and I spent many hours playing at his house, whenever his mom would let me. I remember River Raid and Pitfall being faves..

I had one, it was our big Christmas present one year in the early 80s. Favorite games were Spider-Man, Combat, Asteroids, Pac-Man and Winter Olympics.

I always associate Atari with black and white. My mom read that video games could burn patterns into your TV, and in a rare instance of her being a stereotypical "uncool" Mom, forbade us from playing the Atari on the big TV. It was permanently attached to my sister's small 13" Black and White TV.

When I wanted a Nintendo NES, I begged and BEGGED so I could be allowed to hook it to the color TV. I won that one.

Ohh boy....lots to say on this topic lol

But in a nutshell, yes yes and yes.
I maintain systems in my home to this day:
                          2600
                          5200
                          7800
                          Colecovision
                          NES
                          SNES
                          Sega/SegaCD
                          Jaguar

Now, I have lots of dupe games and dupe systems - keep extra systems juuust in case.
Course, I have expansion consoles for Colecovision and the 5200 - plus roller controllers.

My Coleco vision systems as well as my Atari 7800 have been modded by your's truly and I eliminated the RF Switch - they connect via RCA jacks like newer systems and the picture is beautifully clear.

I've recently restored three old NES systems with new connectors and bypassing of the 10NES chip for super reliability.

But you're right - nothing compares to good ole vintage Atari.
My wife randomly stopped at an antique shop the other day and found me a dozen or so 2600 carts still in the box. That vintage packaging is uber neat to have today.

That sounds like Combat. My Atari came with it as well. It had tanks, old biplanes and jets as I recall.
