I almost forgot. They might have a deal by next Thursday. I heard from a very trusted friend today that they might be close to a deal. Keep those fingers crossed.Comment

Yes it's the highest but the Phillies have the 2nd and the Red Sox have the 3rd and the Dodgers have the 4th and they didn't get anywhere near the play-offs this year so it's not just money that makes a team good. Also the Tigers are 5th on the list in payroll and they are going to the World Series.
As for A-Rod while I may respect the guy for handling himself better than say a Reggie Jackson (whom I despise) would, I wouldn't mind seeing him go elsewhere and start fresh. I'd wish him well and I hope the Yankees can move him and I think that was one their main reasons for benching him. I didn't really agree with the move in Game 3. You should play your players that got you to the point of where you are. He's a huge distraction on the team right now. It barely gets mentioned Cano, Swisher, Granderson, and Chavez were huge zeros in the line-up. The thing is, A-Rod has to agree to go elsewhere even if the Yankees do have a suitor. He has an air tight no trade clause unless he approves it so if he wants to stay in NY, he can. Hopefully he'll realize that a new city would do him wonders. As for the potential trade to the Marlins, it's being reported up here that it be A-rod and cash(Yanks would pay 75% of his salary..which is like 77 million over 5 years) for Heath Bell, Jose Reyes and the Marlins pick up 25 mill and all the incentives on the bonuses when he hits all of those milestones on the horizon."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

I have lots of friends from NY who are Yankees fans and that is cool to me. I do not like the Yankees at all because I've always been an Orioles fan. Same way that I do not cheer for Boston, Tampa and Toronto. I will admit that I tend to hate on the Yankees a bit more since the 90s, but that is because of the fans boo-ing their own players and that sort of thing. I'm sure the same thing happens elsewhere, but I haven't seen it when I've been to the ballpark in Baltimore. It's all good!Comment

but then had a massive fire sale the next season getting rid of players like water......you may be able to spend like the Yankees but you need to have bank and fan support to continue it......Comment

Yankees are different team altogether, they have a huge history of winning and Yes for them if they don't win the World Series the season is deemed a failure, oh so you think. In reality as long as the team continues to go to the playoffs, It generates interest to sell season tickets AND that's what it's all about.
Don't be fooled all teams want a winning season and make the playoffs it virtually guarantee's at least five years worth of ticket sales. That is what these sports are all about now...Win a championship that's gravy.
Yankees built themselves by reinvesting in the team building the name up through marketing. Go anywhere in the world and you'll see someone with something Yankees on....it's why they are so hated because Mr.Steinbrenner uped the game....owners now had to either spend money or really push themselves to get talented kids and try to win with them....
Many Teams now follow the script get a franchise kid or two and build around them hopefully not overspending for a superstar who will break the Bank Win a championship or make the playoffs Bottom line MAKE A **** LOAD OF MONEY WHILE THEY CAN...........
Problem with the Yanks is they are getting old in certain spots and need new young kids instead of an overpaid benched has been superstar who's better days are clearly behind him.......Last edited by kingdom warrior; Oct 19, '12, 4:25 PM.Comment

Oh I agree, The Marlins just don't have the fan support that the Yanks do, nor do most teams. You can win a WS without a huge payroll, the Marlins proved that too. But realistically lesser (most) teams will never be able to put together WS teams without a legitimate salary cap. When the NFL introduced the Salary cap I was against it, I felt if you owned a team, you should pay what ever you want and could afford, it's your team. I changed my mind when I saw the results in the NFL. Anybody can win.Last edited by Zemo; Oct 19, '12, 4:48 PM.Comment

The way Tampa plays and the way the Marlins have played in the past, both Florida teams have trouble with attendance. Maybe it's the awful ballparks they play in or there's a lot of fans of other teams that already move down there but they way they draw, they could be playing themselves right out of the state in the future. New Orleans expressed interest in a baseball team and so has Las Vegas so the Rays could end up leaving all together if they don't start putting fans in the seats when they've got a good product on the field."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

I don't understand the lack of support for the Florida teams, Marlins have won 2 championships although at the time they had the football stadium outdoors and seriously who wants to sit in heat and rain in the summer....I guess it's the fear that as soon as they win they gut the team...WAIT!!! nevermind now I know why the fans don't support them....lol
Rays I don't get, Joe Maddon is a hell of a manager and even when they got rid of players he kept the Rays contending.....Comment
