Lets face facts without Depp slated to play the "lead" (because he is the main star here and we know it) The film would not have been made.
Fact is Depp has a large fan base draws a huge crowd and sells seats.
No Depp no film period.
I also had heard he wanted to bring Tonto to the forefront and not have him be the backup to the ranger.
I know I am looking forward to his portrayal of the character, only time will tell if he is a good Tonto.
My father is 50% native American/first nation is that enough?
I know he is pretty pumped about jack sparrow playing Tonto so it can't be that bad.
It obvious Depp is no Jay silverheels but hey, they can't all be Canadian...
That's right I'm more upset they didn't get a canadian to play Tonto...Comment

The name "Tonto" isn't very politically correct, either. In Spanish, it means stupid or fool. I don't think the creators of the original radio broadcast intended the name to be offensive, however. I guess it's actually supposed to mean "wild one" in the same Indian language as the work Kemosabe (trusted scout). In some Spanish speaking countries, Tonto's name is changed to Toro (bull).Last edited by mikeoz; Oct 5, '12, 3:10 PM.Looking for:

I was also wondering if the British got upset when Robert Downey Jr. was cast to play Sherlock Holmes?
Remember when Cold Mountain came out you had a Canadian, an Australian, and an Englishman all in lead roles about a movie that takes place during the American Civil War. I don't think it's that big a deal. I just think Depp overshadows the film. It could have been worse...if this were 20 years ago, they'd probably get Lou Diamond Phillips to play Tonto and that would've been tragic on many levels."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

Come to think of it, none of the people who played Poirot were actually Belgian!
Now I'm outraged!!!!
On the plus side: at least they didn't ask JCVD.
His acting would be the only true crime committed in the story....

Amazing how threads get derailed just like trains in the wild west
The cinematography looks amazing, the scenery breathtaking, and the two actors playing the leads look exactly like a modern-day adaptation of the characters. I could care less if Depp is 1/8th Native American - he is going to bring the beloved character of Tonto to life on the big screen.
I cannot wait to see this.Comment
