The more I looked at her...I thought something was missing. I added a hatband, some additional details to her mouth, lightened her hair, and a few other highlights. Looks way more finished now.
Much better but step away now and leave it alone --- or you'll be in danger of overkilling it.

You're absolutely right...you gotta know when to add more, and when to stop. I very seldom revisit paintings, but this one was bugging me. Her face was centered a tad to low for all that empty black up top. The orange band really evens the composition out.
