I know some very basic Japanese, not enough to have a big conversation, but enough to save my butt if I ever found myself lost in the middle of Tokyo (which I hope doesn't happen!). I learned some French in elementary school, but have forgotten most of it. I admire people that are fluent in more than one language, I really wish I was.

Spanish, and been studying Italian the last couple years.

I can communicate, read books, and watch movies and TV in Italian, but I feel there is still much to learn about it. One good thing about Italian is the fact that you don't have the problems that you usually have with Spanish and English languages. Italian is used in Italy and in very small African regions, but Spanish can get dramatically different in South America, Mexico, and Spain. Same with English, in Australia and the UK. Things can get really complex even for people fluent in English or Spanish worldwide. And that doesn't happens with Italian.

I can read Hebrew and Greek. Speaking it is another issue. I can do it, but I sound awful and if you are fluent in either language, you will laugh at me.

            English and Spanish, lol.

I took four years of college level Japanese back in the 80s...but can't really converse now...part of the problem is the lack of conversing with Japanese-speaking people. The funny thing, one of my best friends is Japanese-American, but his Japanese is worse than mine, what a worthless friend, lol.

My sister is the linguist of the family...she is a professional Spanish interpreter/translator...she's also been speaking French since she was a little girl, one of her majors is French, and she studied and lived in France for a few years...she also taught French at the high school level (as well as Spanish). She can also converse in Italian, Portuguese, some German, and even a tad of Farsi (one of her friends is Iranian-German)...she also mingles with Japanese...I swear, I don't know how she does it...she just has a natural ability for picking up languages, I truly envy her, lol.

One of the languages I'd like to tackle is Mandarin...there's an adult school a few block away from my house that offers Mandarin and Cantonese...but the heck with Cantonese...if you think Mandarin is hard...try Cantonese...good luck, lol.

I can get by with conversational Spanish but I'm pretty rusty these days since I rarely get the chance to use it.

English is all I know...except for a mysterious supernatural language that only my daughter can hear. Interestingly enough, I have no idea that I'm speaking it...it seems to only occur when I'm telling her about some task or chore she needs to do, and I can tell the mystery language has been used because I see the look of perplexed frustration on her face. Weird.
