Wait, didn't this all start BECAUSE of Meg Whitman? I mean, in the 10 years she was at the helm, eBay was transformed from it's early roots as a rather friendly self policed collectibles auction site to the huge, cold corporate behemoth it is today.Comment

Yes and no. Meg did build them into a giant BUT she was also very understanding and supportive of the community. Since Donahoe took over in 2008 we have been blessed with no ability to neg buyers, clueless CS help, small sellers leaving, screwed up search function, over protection of buyers to the point of harming good sellers, the firing in mass of the "pinks" who did the majority of the policing with the help of eBay members, fee hikes of all kinds including shipping, etc. Pierre knew that they were going to go public and needed someone to steer the helm into that direction but he also wanted to try and keep the same community spirit that developed with the company. Meg did what she was hired to do and built it into a giant. Donahoe is working to tear it down. I know Meg a bit and she is a brilliant woman. She understood the "eBay thing" while this current idiot has no clue. While many believe Meg was only about the bottom line she wasn't."Never take a person's dignity: it is worth everything to them, and nothing to you." - Frank BarronComment

I always wonder what eBay would be like today if it had never gone public and stayed true to it's community based roots. I mean, sorta like Craigslist.....Comment
